Now powered by Sky

I'm with Now broadband. I have just signed up to Now powered by Sky but after the engineer visit it seems that we can't have it (or we don't want to have it because the only option is cabling running along skirting in the house and we don't want that). I'm now trying to cancel the contract but need a direct number. I've phoned Sky who say its not them because Now powered by Sky is a different department. They've put us through to Now broadband who say it's not them because it's a Sky product. How do we contact someone to cancel????

Perhaps note that FTTP will become inevitable as support for copper circuits is removed from local exchanges.

Re: Now powered by Sky

After a bit of 'back and forth' (Sky said it wasn't their department because it was Now so they transferred us. Now said it wasn't their department because it was Sky! It doesn't seem that anyone wants to take responsibility foe Now powered by Sky). Sky finally sorted out cancelling the contract

Re: Now powered by Sky

I hope by the time it becomes 'compulsory' they've worked out a way of fitting it without me having to have wires running all along my skirting boards (in my newly decorated living room 😉). The problem is that our router is in the upstairs bedroom. The engineer wanted to either run the cabling all round the bedroom skirting and then out through the bedroom wall and down the front of the house and run all the way down to the ground OR drill a hole through the living room ceiling, run it down the living room wall and then all the way around the skirting and out through the front wall. Neither is suitable and I don't want wires running all over the house. I was 'hoping' that they would just attach the new box on the wall where the router already is but the engineer said he's not allowed to stand on the roof to fit it (we have a porch roof directly below where the cable currently comes in).

@Lynsey48 to expand on the point made by @TimmyBGood the existing copper based network you are using for broadband is being replaced by a full fibre network. At some point you will be forced to switch or lose your fixed line connection. In many areas Openreach wont allow new orders for partial fibre services insisting on installing a new fibre line..The new cable is far more reliable and future proof as the copper connection has reached its limit on speed..

Fibre uses new cables and fibre lines cannot be run in the home like the old copper phone cables for example they cannot go around tight corners. Therefore the ONT unit that terminates the fibre cable is normally mounted on the inside of an external wall where the fibre cable comes from the road but the router or hub needs not be close by. The ONT connection to the hub is normally uses a short ethernet cable but in practice that cable can be as long as required. Ethernet cables can be bought premade in a range of  lengths or you can buy the cable and plugs separately so can be run to whereever you want to place the hub. The engineer installing thexservice wont do this work for you but you can run a cable yourself or hire a comptetent tradesperson to do it for you.

There's never going to be a cable-less link to an ONT: by definition it's an Optical Network Terminal. In theory it might be possible to use Powerline networking between ONT and router, but that risks being a significant bandwidth bottleneck.
