Apple HomePod connection problems

Since switching from BT full fibre to Sky fibre we are unable to listen to BBC Sounds app on our HomePod. The connection just keeps dropping. Seems to be to do with Sky router switching between 2.4ghz and 5hz but I can't see any easy way to resolve it.
Definitely regret the switch to Sky.
Can anyone suggest how we can resolve the issue? Thanks

@PeatG while the home pod may switch bands due to signal stength the hub will continually broadcast both it is the device that selects which one to use. You could try rdbooting thhe hub which will cause it to select the least congested WiFi channels to uuse. Beyond yhst its about trying to improve WiFi coverage Sky will supply extenders if asked and you pay for their WiFi Max add-on..

Re: Apple HomePod connection problems

With BT I had to log into the hub to change the braodband to 2.4 GHz as having both caused the issue. After that it was fine. I've also gone to Sky and this settinhg isn't accesible to me and so the issue remains. It's a total pain. I get to listen to the homepoad for a minute or two then it cuts out.

I have the same issue; try to play music via my HomePod and it says it cannot connect, then it can, it starts playing then after about 20/30 seconds it cuts out.

my iPhone also keeps dropping from WiFi for about 1/2 seconds randomly. Very annoying.

Re: Apple HomePod connection problems

I left Sky in the end as it wasn't working. I went back to BT, who paid the early termination fee, and it's working a dream now.

Re: Apple HomePod connection problems

My family have had nightmares with BT customer service so I didn't even consider them. I'll probably have to speak to Sky. Thanks.

Re: Apple HomePod connection problems

Sky were really very helpful in trying to find a solution. Not really had issues with BT customer service myself.  Prior to Sky we were with EE, their customer service was second to none in my experience. How you manage to sort it.

Re: Apple HomePod connection problems

Tried rebooting the hub which didn't work. Don't think it's a coverage issue as it still drops when the phone is in the same room as the HomePod and the hub is only 5m away.

How do you get customer service help from Sky? I just get directed to the community?!
supposed to have had a private chat from Sky in relation to this but it's never arrived so gave up after chasing twice.

Re: Apple HomePod connection problems

For my Homepods if was that the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz networks couldn't be split ...cocked up the homepod connection. Sky tried to help with a solution but no good.

The newer white Sky hubs support at least WiFi6 which requires both WiFi bands to be synchronised and therefore you cannot split the bands. This is quite common feature of newer hubs/routers and is not unique to Sky.  Given the. Hubs are backwardly compatable to earlier WiFi standards this is not normally a problem. A few devices require the 5GHz band to be turned off while they are connected but work with the dualband signal once connected

2nd generation Apple Home pods which are considerably cheaper than the orginal units only support the older WiFi standard 802.11n (WiFi4) while the older 1st generation pods support 802.11ac (WiFi5). Either should work on a Sky connection. If you have a black Sky hub you can split the wifi bands if you want see Split Sky WiFi bands
