3rd Party Router Configuration

Hi All,

Having some troubles setting up my third party router.

Extracted my VDSL login details (the anything@skydsl|anything ones), put it in but does not accept. Used the Sky_MER (DHCP Option 61) profile preconfigured on my router, also tried to set up via PPPoA using the same settings,  VLAN ID etc.

Set it up, switched the cable from my Sky router over, but it won't talk (or maybe Sky won't talk back). Tried to recconnect to the router by using the Sky App to test the line, test showed all okay and that it could connect to the Sky Hub (cable wasn't plugged into hub at the time but was connected to new router).

Can someone help? or maybe someone from Sky can get in touch to help resolve on their end.

3rd Party Router is a TP-LINK Archer VR2100 - https://www.tp-link.com/uk/service-provider/dsl-router/archer-vr2100/  Seems others have had luck with this model.

Which broadband product from Sky are you using?

As noted in this thread, that model of router cannot work for Ultrafast 1 on G.fast as it doesn't contain a G.fast modem.

Re: 3rd Party Router Configuration

@cookiemonsteruk@TimmyBGoodSorry guys, just a quick follow up, just want to double check as I'm not sure if it'll cause any issues. Will the Huawei MT992 be suitable for use with the Sky G.fast service?

Regarding the tp link it may be possible to authenticate using dhcpv6 prefix delegation as below

1. Connect the network cable from the g.fast  modem to port 4 (labelled LAN/WAN)

2. Login to the router and click advanced at the top.

3. Click Operating Mode and change to "Wireless Router Mode" press "Save"

4. Once ready, while on the "Advanced" setting again, go to "Network" -> "Internet"

5. You will see an empty table, click "Add" in the top right above said table

6. Change Internet Connection Type to "Dynamic IP"

7. Ensure IPv4 remains ticked.

8. Tick IPv6 (wont be selected at the moment)

9. Do not clone mac

10. Press Save

11. Wait, it can take a minute or two but should eventually show connected.

As the sky mer client identifier only works with the tp own modem

The huawei should work its got vlan configured even if the modem itself is n longer receiving firmware upgrades

The issue would be on the tp link side in so far that 80% of exchanges offer dhcpv6 prefix delegation

Re: 3rd Party Router Configuration

@cookiemonsterukEnded up going for the ZT Link modem of the same model no., having read some posts on it, its near enough the same as the Huawei model (just was cheapest on Ebay).

I get you, I'll use a combination of the both depending how things go, thank you for the help 🙂 I'll let you know how I get on.

That's correct, because those aren't required when using the hardware which Sky provides.

Sky doesn't offer a static public IP address on any current broadband product.
