As mentioned above your TV is just a regular 4K without HDR. My parents got my old 4K which was the same. It was just 4K SDR. If you want HDR the only way sorry to say is a new TV.

I don't want HDR, just normal 4K would do.

Do you have the UHD sky subscription, if not I doubt 4K is switched on in your box. If you have, you may need to check the box software is up to date and 'refresh' the apps on it by the installers menu

As @fizzdisco said I think the app only supports UHD/HDR so won't work in UHD mode if it doesn't support (HLG) HDR

Exactly. And as @Fergus05 points out too, your Q box would need to be set to 2160P 10bit and detect a connection to a HLG compatible TV before it would ouput iPlayer in 4K.

I do have 4K subscription, all the other apps show 4K no issue. The BBC iPlayer app came on 3 weeks ago showing 4K but when I clicked on it, only a black screen came on and sound. Then they took the 4K option away. I can watch 4K on the iPlayer app through the smart tv so it's no biggie. I'll contact technical, see what they say.

Then it's possible that the iPlayer is outputting in 4K uhd amd your tv can only receive 4K non uhd and that's the issue.

Ah I see, that makes sense. I'll stick with the iPlayer app on the Smart TV. Funny how the rest of the apps show and my setting is set to 4K.

True, but perhaps they don't use uhd just 4K. Good luck

Think you're confusing UHD with HDR.
The other apps on Q - Prime & Netflix will output 4K/UHD without HDR. Disney+ will only output 4K/UHD with HDR so you will be limited to HD unless connected to an HDR capable TV.
It's possible that iPlayer will only output 4K/UHD with HDR too, hence the issue.

Yes, you're right, I meant exsctly what you said, but said it wrong 🤦🏻♂️

I've had this issue with Disney resolved already. Although they say that I'm watching HD the TV actually upscales into 4K, I can see the difference. They confirmed it too. You don't have to have HDR for it to work. As for Netflix i find the 4K on Q is stunning. But Amazon 4K is not as good on Q as on the Smart TV app. Weird.

My TV does 10 bit. Also these are the specs for my iPlayer app via Q

Yes, that's what all 4K TVs do with HD content - they upscale it to fill the 4K frame. It just means that you don't get the native 4K output of Disney+ which, unlike Netflix, you get for free if your TV is capable of receiving it. If it looks fine to your eyes then that's all that matters though.
TV apps always tend to be better than Q apps as the TV is tuned to get the best possible output from the native apps on it. I have a Panasonic TV and Netflix, Prime, Disney+, YouTube & AppleTV+ are all much better via the TV apps than Q. They have proper frame rate matching, more HDR options and native 4K output.
It's all very subjective though - use whatever looks best to your eyes. Every TV is different. Many people like the convenience of having everything on Q, even if it does sacrifice a bit of quality.
