So, as we've acknowledged the latter can't be purchased for less than £300.
I'm pretty sure the Sony HTX8500 is a pretty valid comparison albeit a seperate soundbar. It's well regarded, delivers Dolby Atmos (well a faux version the same as Sky Glass e.g. no upfiring speakers), and is available for £299.
But then I also think the Hisense is 65A7GQ is a cracking TV, the same spec (if not build quality) as Sky Glass and only £699.
I think it is entirely possible to put together a comparable (and probably more flexible) set up to Sky Glass for the same money (actually less and with a 5 year warranty), but that isn't actually the point here is it?
Sky are clearly trying to move towards being an "experience" company, where the actual technicals about how it works don't really matter. More Apple like in many ways.
Sky Glass is going to appeal to a lot of people because of how it looks, perceived ease of use and how it embraces the clear changes in viewing habits. With a few software updates, many people will be very happy. And lest we forget that those of us who care about the best picture quality are often in a minority in our own homes, let alone the real world.
I have an OLED, my broadband isn't fast enough to support the viewing experience I would want currently with Glass and I love live sport, so having used NOW TV in the past and knowing that the person sitting next to me is getting updates on their mobile about goals being scored 90 seconds before we watch it, I knew early on that as much as I liked the concept, it isn't for me at the moment.
There are clearly (and I mean this in the nicest way), a few people that really should have waited before investing in the new shiny toy or at least made some more effort to understand how Glass is a different experience to Q. Meanwhile, others are getting exactly what they expected.
There is no point arguing about it, either send it back or put your big pants on and work positively and proactively to improve it.
A number of the issues being reported are the joy of being an early adopter. Caveat emptor.
