Same issue here, just changed over to a three 4g router.

Re: Remote network problem

Getting more failures now, with different messages. Not sure if it's the same issue.

  • The Comey Rule - Just say there at 0% for ages and eventually failed
  • Brave New World - Mixture of 'episode not available' and 'failed'

Hopefully that means they're working on it, but it's very frustrating.

Re: Remote network problem

Hi all Had brand new Q box 29 /9/20  took couple of days playing with it but after 3 days found as above remote network problem also subscription errors and the voice button stopped working , after a week phoned sky they said it may be because I was trying to download HD instead of SD so they changed my package to HD as a trial and sent out a new remote. I'm 72 and not a technician person but I have tried downloading the new software checked all settings are as should be However nothing has changed and after reading these posts I have tried to watch FBI , 911 , 2 weeks 2 live all work OK on my Samsung tablet on sky go but won't work on the Q box mm . And as previously stated all start with adverts.  Hope that Sky read this and sort it out.  Bryan

Re: Remote network problem

This is getting to the stage of cancelling SkyQ - and only using it for Freeview.

A couple of episodes of Riveria S3 downloaded and then the forth one failed...   We missed an episode of NCIS New Orleans - gets to 21 minutes then fails - restarting then goes back to the beginning and fails.

Re: Remote network problem

Things for me, at least for now, seem to be working OK, had experieced this in the past. Succesfully been watching series with adverts downloaded OK.  I am on EE 4G Broadband with a Huawei B525 router.  I did make a change to the DNS settings (as the EE DNS didn't work properly with my Philips Hue lights) - changed the DNS to use google's DNS servers -  8.8.8.8.  So it may be worth trying this to see if that helps with the episode downloading issue on SKY Q.

@Me123321123 When you retry are you deleting the failed download then going into the deleted section and deleting it from there first before trying to download again.

Also just for clarification if you cancel Sky Q you are unable to use the box for freeview as Sky own all of the boxes so when you cancel you have to return all your Sky Q boxes to Sky

I may be a Sky Superuser but I am still just a Sky customer

Sky Broadband Hub/SR203, Sky Ultrafast broadband

Re: Remote network problem

Issue persists for me - 95% of recordings failing with remote network failed error message - only fails for content with adverts.  DNS is set to 8.8.8.8.  See my earlier post for full details of tshoot steps taken so far.  I do check for deleted items in manage recordings section most of the time there is nothing there, on occasion when there is i delete it permanently but it doesn't help.

Also contemplating cancelling SkyQ if this doesn't get fixed soon, which is a shame as i love everything else about it but without downloads working its not worth the subscription, may as well switch to NowTV.

Re: Remote network problem

Just an update on post Sky sent out an engineer spent almost 2 hours new Q box new remote still the same old same old even said he could not see on his iPad that it was showing that I even have a router the strange thing when he was going through the settings it said I was getting Sky broadband he phoned 2 other engineers but they couldn't understand why it won't work.  Just have to watch what I record and no downloads.

From what I've rFRe: Remote network problem

From what I've read above, and my own personal experience, I don't think there's any point playing with network settings, trying different routers and the like. The problem appears to me to be an issue with the servers at Sky's end.

The only saving grace is that if you're persistent and keep retrying the downloads, it seems it eventually works. I will regularly initiate a download of a whole series of (say) 10 episodes. On the first pass, maybe 3 or 4 will work. Then I set the remaining ones to download and a few of them will work. Sometimes it will take 5 or 6 attempts to get an episode to download, but it usually does in the end. I haven't (yet) found something that I've been unable to download using this method.

Re: Remote network problem

So - some further investigation and I had a thought which I wanted to test here.  I'm now getting some Error 288 type messages when logging into this community.  I believe these are due to the IP address my Internet Provide is assigning being on a SPAM blacklist.  I've had a few issues with BT email as well.

This might explain why only some of us have issues and why they occur when Sky switches between adverts (probably little authentication) and subscription servers.  Plus why it doesn't always happen as the assigned IP address changes over time.

Just a throught and I might try changing my load balanced router to share the 4G connection as well as use my Microwave BB provider to see if it helps.

Re: Remote network problem

Hi @Me123321123

As I said above, I don't think there's anything at all you can do about it. There's a problem at Sky's end that only they can really fix...

Re: Remote network problem

@Andrew+Hawkins

Thanks - Do we know if there is an official 'fault' logged on Sky's system - so at least we will all be getting a part refund 😂
