Guys
@cookiemonsteruk @jamesn123 @mae-3 @JPR007
Can I kindly ask which one is the best value for money out of these routers?
1- RT-AX58U = £149.90 (missed blackfriday deal @£104)
2- RT-AX82U = 134.99 (still on deal)
3- RT-AC68U = £124 (still on deal)
I will connect my xbox to one of these and will use adaptive QoS, so I could maximise the speed for xbox.
I am inclined toward RT-AX82U as it has dedicated LAN for the consoles and its max speed is up to 5400 Mbps as opposed to 3000 Mbps with RT-AX58U.
Am I going on the right lines or am I missing something?
TIA.

The better router is the RT-AX82U but both the 802.11ax routers are good choices, the RT-AC68U is the least good choice because it doesn't support the latest 802.11ax standard wireless, only 802.11ac wireless which is about 30% slower than. 802.11ax router/clients of the future and now.

Thanks @mae-3 @jamesn123 @cookiemonsteruk

Trying to set up the router:
Quoting from cookiemaster 'Yep, ethernet from port 1 on ont to blue wan port on asus. Go to WAN screen on asus and do your anything@skydsl|anything and away you go'
When I started the setup in the app, it selected WAN type: PPPoE and then I entered the name and details as above 'anything@skydsl|anything'
and then wi-fi SSID.
However, no luck with the internet as the internet light is red. I have restarted ONT and router a few times.
Am I missing a step? Yelp 🙂

WAN IP: WAN Disconnected
WAN Type: PPPoE

Wan type should be set to auto ip in the uk
This will display "client identifier (option 61)" which is where you enter
anything@skydsl|anything

under the WAN
it gives me only three options:
-PPPoE
-DHCP
-Static IP
There is no option for auto IP. Any hints?

Have you upgraded asus firmware whilst etherneted to the sky hub. This firmware needs to be upgraded until it doesn't upgrade any more
Then can you post screen shots of the wan and lan screens?

You may have to update the Asus firmware to get the correct setting available for establishing a DHCP Option 61 field for connecting to Sky broadband.

Few questions:
1- For updating firmware, do I connect LAN cable to WAN (blue input port) or any of the yellow output ports?
2- Does it allow me to update the firmware without setting the router?
3- When I am setting this up, shall I set this as a 'router' from the options?

1. Yes ethernet from any lan port on sky hub to the blue wan on the asus
2&3 the asus will default to router mode which is sufficient to update the asus. No changes need to be made

Update the firmware as per recommendations. Entered details in client identifier. Restarted router and ONT a few times and the internet light on the router is still red.
Any more suggestions?

When the setting is correct for DHCP Option 61 field then the ONT and router should be switched off completely for 30 minutes and then switched back on again after that period, and hopefully, everything should then be fine. Will check the details you have posted concerning setting when the screenshots have been approved.
