Thanks a lot for your support. Its working now.
I have written a formal procedure so it can help others. Credit to you guys.
Idiots guide to setup Asus Router with Sky
1- You connect LAN cable to WAN input (Blue port) of your new ASUS router from your current working router.
2- Using another LAN cable, connect the new Asus router to the laptop (LAN 1 – yellow port).
3- Switch off wi-fi on this laptop so your laptop can make a local area network with the new router.
4- Open your browser and type: http://router.asus.com or http://192.168.0.1
5- The new router will ask you to set up username and password (choose whatever you want, which will be used later to log in to router settings).
6- After setting username/pssword, ->‘Advanced Setting’ ->‘choose operation mode’ -> ‘Wireless router mode (default)’ -> ‘Automatic IP’ and enter SSID details (this will be used to connect to router). Now router will prompt you – 802.11ax / wi-fi 6 mode on option.
7- Now you are in the main home page of the router’s setting. Look for the firmware version (at the top) and click the number next to it. Then click on check update. And Update the firmware.
NOTE: You will NOT have ‘client identifier (option 61)’ under the WAN settings without updating the firmware on your router.
8- Once the router is updated, it will restart, and you will have to use your router’s login details (set at step 5) to log in and you will have to repeat the whole process again (Step 6-7 and double-check that there is no more firmware update available.
9- Now go to WAN and you should see Client-identifier (option 61). And Enter anything@skydsl|anything and click on ‘apply’ at the end of the page.
10- Turn off your ONT and router for approximately 20-30 minutes. Restart and now you should have internet.

A Quick review:
I do not see any difference between the new sky router and this Asus router in terms of the speed test.
I have setup Qos and open the NAT.
So with Sky router: latency is 12ms and stays mostly around 12ms but can go to 18ms.
With Asus router: latency is 12-15ms and can drop to 18ms.
Speed-wise they are the same. It means that Sky router is excellent if you use a LAN cable to connect your console.

@Samorai This proves why we always recommend latency sensitive things use Ethernet. 99% of the time the issue(s) are down to WiFi, not the actual router performance itself.
You may notice a difference if you start loading it up with 30/40+ devices as that's when the superior CPU difference will show under sustained load.

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreOne thing I dont see in your instructions is a step to disconnect the Sky router from the ONT and the Asus router and then connect the Asus router directly to the ONT after you've done the firmware update

@jamesn123 Edited step 10 (as that is where it happens).

Yes, you are correct. We have approximately 25 devices connected to the router.
When I put on the practicality of it, Sky router is still dropping the speed when playing online (evident by graphics in the game) but the Asus router is prioritising the game and has no speed issues.
So, money is justified and very happy with it. Surely, additional benefits are wi-fi 6 and a better wi-fi range.

Yes with adaptive qos you can priortise gaming over streaming and vice versa thru your asus router app
Also mu-mimo and ofdma allow more device to run concurrently

ICMP ping latency checks aren't the same as what games actually use which is usually UDP traffic, so prioritising that traffic for games you will see a difference between the two routers, eg: Sky and Asus. Also, when you reach 30+ devices connected to the router that's when the real difference is noticed. 😀

Hey, I'm thinking about getting ASUS rt-ax82u as when my partner watches tv it causes spiking. I've read how to set it up I'm just wondering do you, just disable the WiFi from the sky router or do you completely disconnect the sky hub all together?
im wired connection and replaced the either net cable to make sure that wasn't the issue..
thank you

@RMalibu you disconnect sky router and throw it in your attic as a backup (in case sky engineers want to trouble shoot xyz, then you connect it).

Hi thank you, I may need a little bit of help during the process when setting it up but that's been great help and I'll try my best with the steps you have stated.
thank you again
