Re: Issues after latest Software update

That's good to know, and I would give it a whirl, but I have too much invested in my current box, it'll have to burst into flames before I replace it. 😉

Re: Issues after latest Software update

Have noticed with my main box, since the 170 update the HDD is crashing each day, don't how when or why.

I can watch live TV but unable to watch any recordings or demand TV, or record anything. I know when it's crashed because the HDD becomes really noisy like its stuck. Deffo only started happening since the last update.

If I remove the mains power then reconnect, this fixes the problem and have full access to all recordings, on demand etc. However at some point the following day it will become stuck again!!!

Mini boxes seem intermittent also. As I said this is deffo only since the last update. Hoping sky can fix it as I don't want to have to delete or replace my HDD 😞

  • What has Sky said, it would appear you need a new box as the result of any extra stress the s/w is putting on it is resulting in a preexisting hardware issue causing the failure.

Re: Issues after latest Software update

Nothing yet as I haven't spoken to them. I know they will tell me to reset the hdd, or even send out a replacement box but I don't want to lose everything on my hdd that's taken me a few years to save!

If there was a way of backing all my films up then I would. Just holding out in case they release a further update that fixes the problem.

  • Not best practice I'm afraid @Gio.V keeping recordings on a HDD that's limited lifespan.

@Gio.V If they are films bought from Sky Store you will be able to download them again. If it's a hard drive problem it will only get worse so i'd bite the bullet and contact Sky

I may be a Sky Superuser but I am still just a Sky customer

Re: Issues after latest Software update

Is it definitely the hard drive you're hearing? If a fan like noise, mine was fixed by hardwiring the box to my network rather than using WiFi. Gone from multiple crashes a day to none for weeks.

Re: Issues after latest Software update

It does sound like a fan but I'm assuming it's the HDD as I lose all use of it. You can also hear the HDD stuttering. Had sky Q for a few years now with no probs up until now.

Re: Issues after latest Software update

Hi @Gio.V you need them to downgrade the software to Q160, as this has fixed the problem for me. It must be a big issue this time around as I've never (19+ years) known them to do anything to fix issue other than offering a replacement box that may or may not fix the issue.

I am the same as you, I have a lot of history on my box, which I will lose if if really goes pop, but I'm not prepared to lose just because they have released dodgy software.

if there really is something wrong with the hardware, then they should swap the boxes out in the background to reduce the customer noise (irrespective of if the new boxes cost money normally).

Re: Issues after latest Software update

Since updating to Q170, our mini box is losing the connection to the main box almost daily. 🤦

Didn't have this with Q160.

Mini is hard wired to the hub.

  • Is the mini on Q170 too?

Re: Issues after latest Software update

More senior sky engineers visited yesterday and made some changes to settings.

He turned off 2.4G on all boxes

He turned off Hotspots on all boxes

Connected main box via ethernet to the deco main box.

Router in Modem Mode

Deco in Router mode.

All Mini Boxes connected together using WPS from Syy Box to Sky Box not Deco WPS.

So far so no crashes, but still early days.

Re: Issues after latest Software update

Boxes started to crash again over the weekend, different error though.  ?Now the mini's refuse to show any TV due to a connectivity problem, but only the video  is a black screen the boxes remain responsive and can be put in and out of standby.  A long power off cycle is required to restart them after which the video works again.

The main Q box has not crashed since the setting change, and that seems stable now.

Re: Issues after latest Software update

Same issue here, mini box losing live tv every 3 or 4 days.

Main box is fine, settings on the mini don't show any connection problems and everything else works except the live tv picture on the mini.

Mini is hard wired to the hub with all wireless off,  main box on 5ghz and 2.4ghz off.

Will probably try the main box on a powerline adapter and turn off 5ghz.
