Re: Sky nfl coverage from 2025

The article claims that Channel 5 will have live Sunday night games at 6pm and 9pm. I would have been surprised if Ski is also still showing 6pm and 9pm games on a Sunday too. If there are going to be four live games on a Sunday evening does that mean all four will be blackout games and not available on DAZN?  If so, seems a little unfair on DAZN subscribers. I've had a DAZN Gamepass subscription for the last two seasons but not renewed and will wait and see how all these contracts work out.

I mean if sky don't show matches at 6pm and 9:30pm there is no way as per the article that

  • The deal is not believed to be reducing Sky’s involvement in NFL broadcasting, although that has not yet been finalised after its previous five-year contract expired over the summer.
  • The i Paper understands that Sky Sports is expecting to show more games than before in the new deal, including Thursday night games and the increasingly popular “Red Zone” broadcast.

Although the second bullet point looks like copy and pasted from a previous article.

If sky want to maintain same amount of matches but lose sunday 6pm and 9:30pm, that the nfl need to magic up and rearrange 36 matches, not to mention the playoff games inews claim 5 are getting.

Otherwise it would seem to be an impossible task.

The making of a gameshow for 5 of the 6pm game sounds awful

Re: Sky nfl coverage from 2025

I'm guessing this is why negotiations took so long . Sky probably wanted a reduction in rights fees if they were no longer getting exclusive rights to Sunday games and a bit like a trade in the NFL there was some sort of compromise in terms of who got what and for how much .

Re: Sky nfl coverage from 2025

This is Rodger Goodell and the NFL we're talking about..... I don't think Sky would have a say if they're happy or not.

I was hearing a few months ago about how the NFL were changing their global TV rights deals. My guess was that they were looking to deals with local TV stations to do free to air games and push people to sign up to gamepass on DAZN as their new global broadcaster. I imagine that's why DAZN got the FIFA world club Cup as there's no single broadcaster outside of DAZN that's readily available in every territory across the world.

I'm shocked if Sky have penned a new deal considering the NFL are moving to streaming services like with Netflix and Amazon Prime. Unless the NFL think it's a bit too soon to completely move to streaming and will use Sky for a couple more years 🤷🏻‍♂️

I agree with Togers900.

I also think sky won't get game blackouts now, as that deters people in the UK from getting game pass which the NFL wants people to get.
