Enhanced for UHD

For those of that don't have or cannot afford UHD TV's has SKY enhanced some programmes e.g.  FBI one of my favourites.

'Enhanced for UHD' in Sky's terminology basically means they have upscaled an HD master to UHD, so rather than the Q box or Glass device doing the upscale and outputting at 2160P, the box/device is receiving a 2160P file, already upscaled, and can output it directly.

Depending on how good your 4K TV is at upscaling, the difference may be negligible to those who watch the HD version of the same content, set their Q box to 1080i and let their TV do the upscale.

Your answer mean nothing to me. I switch my TV on select what I want watch and I cannot. My RV is  Samsung 48  built in 2014, and according to Samsung my TV cannot open Enhanced UHD. If it were a 2015 then I could watch these programmes.  It is unfair of SKY to send out programmes that viewers can not watch.

Most (if not all) content that is available in UHD is also available in HD. If you do not have a 4K TV and do not pay for the UHD add-on as part of your Sky subscription then all you need to do is download the HD version. 

If you want the improved picture quality that UHD can offer then you need to upgrade your TV. This has nothing to do with Sky.

I am not too sure what it is you are doing that you are finding you can't watch

 

Can you give us some specifics ?

 

If your TV is UHD capable but not HDR capable then just make you select 'Other Formats' and choose the UHD rather than the UHD/HDR version  - if your TV doesn;t support UHD at all then choose HD

 

There are a few occasions where one or more of the lower resolution formats aren't available for   some programmes but these are usually due to problems/errors and are usually made available when the errors are found and can be fixed

I'm not aware of any content which is made available only in UHD .

I have a Samsung 4K uhd television and the difference on SKY between HD and UHD is hardly noticeable.  The UHD with HDR is a lot mere noticeable but not always for the better.  When I watched The Midwich Cuckoos I found it a lot better to watch in just HD.  I think that it is more the fact that the more you pay for your TV the better the quality of picture.

You ask what I do have these problems. I enjoy FBI series of programmes.  Recently if  I select a film a line of text opens on my TV advising that I should press the red button my remote, I do that, and again I have to select a USB port connected directly to SKY Q box. This Samsung 48 was built in 2014 and does not have this USB port. 2015 onwards does have this port.  For me this is just another nail in SKY'S  coffin.  By the way  I wanted GLASS but the contract would not open in my PC. Weeks of SKY trying to resolve failed. Don't get me started about SKY broadband.

There's definitely some confusion going on here. 

Sky Q boxes have no USB connection to your TV. The USB port that exists on some Q boxes serves no function whatsoever. 

Sky Q is connected to your TV via HDMI. Your 2014 TV is probably perfectly capable of receiving a signal via HDMI but probably only in HD, not UHD. 

This red button message may be trying to get you to upgrade to UHD which is completely optional and un-necessary if your TV is only capable of HD. 

If you are trying to watch episodes of FBI from On Demand then you need to make sure your box is set to download in SD or HD (if you are paying for the HD option.) 

To check this:

Press Home on your Sky Q remote and select Settings, then Setup. Select Preferences, then On Demand default download format, and choose SD or HD.

As @fizzdisco indicates, almost certainly 'UHD', not 'USB' (the latter being entirely irrelevant).

 

You're probably just being informed that the content is also available in UHD

Incidentally if you're being offered UHD content, that may suggest you are overpaying on your subscription for something which your television cannot facilitate viewing.  Sky themselves won't know you don't have a UHD set.

Yes, I don't think you would get the "also available in UHD" prompt if you are not paying for the additional UHD subscription. Get that checked and cancelled if you don't have a UHD TV.

The question at the end of all these comments is "Did you find this helpful" there is no yes or no box so I guess I have to say NO,  All you tech-smart folks have only made this more complicated for me.
