my landline has stopped working no calls in or out just says  check line  on screen

See if you can run this line test to see if a fault is found outside of your property and if something is found you can book an engineer repair, ignore the fact it says it will test your broadband:

after running a few checks with sky still showed fault on line

then purchased cheap phone and tried again 

and line restored 

old phone had packed in
