He/she is possibly delayed at a previous job. Be aware if you miss them calling you're likely to be charged a missed appointment fee.

Yes Danielle that's my concern, I've been waiting since 8am. I now need to pick up a child from school and I don't want to be charged for a missed appointment. I wondered if I would be charged even though I have been here during my given appointment time.

If you ended up with a missed appointment charge that's something you'd have to discuss with Sky in due course.

Depending on what you've arranged an engineer for, they may be working on your issue remotely, at the exchange or green cabinet.

My apologies Daniel, I'm a bit stressed.
You might be right about the cabinet but it's now almost 3 hours since my appointment slot. No email, no text, no comments from sky.

Sky won't know anything until Openreach report progress to them, typically in the evening of the day of your appointment. As @Daniel0210 posted, it's entirely likely that the fault is being worked on outside your home. Most faults are fixed that way.

I got through to an advisor, Robert talked me through the whole process and couldn't have been more helpful and clear. I need to buy a asdl cable to connect my phone to the hub. I've ordered one from Amazon I'll comment here how I get on when the cable arrives.

The ASDL cable arrived today, phone still not working. I'm going to request an engineer visit but as the previous one didn't arrive I'm not too confident I'll get one.
