Crackling phone line

My phone line is terrible.  Can't hear what anyane is saying and they can't hear me.  Crackling and noise really loud. Tried the rigmarole of disconnecting etc. but no joy at all. My phone line has always been dodgy but this is now ridiculous. Can this please be escalated?

I am experiencing a very similar problem. Calls by land line develop crackling noise after a minute or two. It has been noticeable for some time but is worse now - it was just irritating, but now it can be so loud that conversation is impossible. have tried all suggested cures but none work. The problem is the same on cordless and corded phones. Broadband appears to be unaffected.  Micro filter is integrated in splitter. I conclude that the problem must be in the incoming line. How do I proceed?

@Graham+HorsefairIf you can make a call then call Sky to report this if your broadband is uneffected by this.

 

Just dial 150 on your landline, when asked the nature of the call say " Technical ", you maybe asked for a mobile number give this, but DO NOT hang up, this should then drop your into the queue to speak to an advisor.

I have just tried the phone with the microfilmed replaced with an earlier unit. The crackling noise started after about 10 seconds. I believe that I have tried every feasible configuration to dete,Rhine the source, and the only explanation is that it is outside my boundary I e on the line.

The man from Openreach tested everything thoroughly and concluded that the problem was a faulty Sky line filter. He replaced it, and since then I have notvheard any of the  crackling sound effects. Fingers crossed. Thanks to all who were involved.

I spoke too soon. After a couple of days with no disturbance, a call just now was invaded by crackling as loud as ever -  continuous crackle with occasional squeaks and crescendos. Where do we go from here? It is not something I. can live with.
