Sky + HD

Is anyone else suffering the same problem as me with their sky going off on certain channels saying 'no satellite signal' and to reset. However many times I reset it keeps happening.

That's just a conspiracy theory. Dish problems are not uncommon. Your dish or cabling - they're equipment you own - are most likely the cause. It's your choice whether or not you pay a local engineer to get it fixed. If you prefer to cancel, 31 days notice is required.

See question Q23 in my Sky Plus F⋅A⋅Q for No Satellite Signal

"No Satellite Signal" is an error generated by your Sky box, it has nothing to do with broadband (Internet connectivity) and usually indicates an issue with one or more of the following

  • The Dish is misaligned (not all transponders are getting through, thus some channels may be affected and others not)
  • The Tuners in the sky box
  • The input sockets on the Sky box
  • The plugs on the cables
  • The cables themselves
  • The Sockets on the dishes LNB
  • The dishes LNB has gone faulty for the connections the box is using
  • You have plugged your Sky+ box into a dish that is only compatible with Sky Q

Please Note: Sky+ is now a legacy/obsolete service that Sky are replacing with their newer services: Sky Q (all issues will be fixed during a Sky Q install), Sky Glass and Sky Stream

You may have to call out a local satellite installer ( at your own expense ), unless you already have Sky Protect insurance, to check/fix your system, another option is to move to Sky Q, as during the move all issues will be resolved as part of the install, there is also the option of Sky Glass or Sky Stream, if you want to move away from satellite TV and use the Internet

Re: Sky + HD

I don't want to move to sky Q as will lose all my recordings. I believe this is being done to sky+ customers even us platinum vip ones to change. I would rather get a fire stick with all channels and cancel sky. I'm not in contract!

@JB409

Although SKy do not support the old SKY HD boxes and are actively encourging SKY HD users to switch to SKy Q or SKY HD, loss of channels is not due to SKY doing anything, but just problems with your box or more likely dish alignment or cabling corroding etc.

I'm not in contract anymore so don't believe 31 days matters.

@JB409 even if you're not 'in contract' (i.e. you don't have a discounted deal), you still have a contract with Sky by virtue of your subscription, and you're still bound by the requirement to give 31 days notice to cancel.

Re: Sky + HD

It would really help if when ringing Sky one could speak to someone in UK! One guy told me 'you will be able to keep your recordings with Sky q'. no I know for a fact you can't and don't want to be lied to!  Is it that they tell us anything or just don't train their staff!!

@JB409  Getting to speak to someone in the uk won't make any difference it's called a sales pitch ie they say what the customer wants to hear rather than the reality of the situation in order to get sales

never believe salespeople from any company and do your own research before committing to anything

Perhaps note that cancelling the Sky subscription guarantees you'll lose access to everything stored on the hard drive: playback of Recordings is a subscription - only feature.

Re: Sky + HD

At least someone in the UK could be understood.
Thank you for all your comments, the  only thing I can do is get an engineer round which makes sense.
I don't have time to waste. I have too much to do.
