Re: Sky+ Box won't connect to the internet/router

Most times the NO INITERNET CONNECTION can be solved by pushing the router RESET button until lights flash (this will depend on the router you have) then POWER DOWN (switch off) SKY BOX for 30 seconds to allow it to completly discharge.  Then switch on the SKY BOX and allow it to power up againThis may take several minutes.

It should find the router and connect.

If this does not work, follow the steps above but this time disconnect the SKY BOX internet connector box and switck off the SKY BOX, allow 30 seconds to power down completly, then reconnect the SKY INTERNET BOX to your SKY BOX and turn SKY BOX  back on.  It should now find the Internet connection.

This WILL WORK in almost all cases.

If this fails, ask yourself what has changed?  Was the box moved, is the Sky BOX Internet connector in the right connection or properly connected. (This happened to me when a BT engineer visited, he moved the TV to allow access to main BT phone connection box and for some reason the SKY BOX Internet connector had been removed, why I have no idea, but he was having funny faults with phones)!  So he either disconnected it to see if that solved the problem or knocked it out by accident.  I find knocking it out a bit hard to believe, but sometimes the unbelieveable happens!  The other time it was the connector that was knocked out by someone (Or they had lost the Internet connection, no one did it it was this MR Nobody I have yet to meet that appears to stay with us! They had tried to solve the problem by putting it into a socket at the back of the SKY BOX, but as they couldn't see they had managed to shove it in the wrong socket, it was not connected as it was to big a connecter port for the plug, but it managed to stuff it in and get a connection to put a light on the SKY BOX Internet connector box!

This showed with one light lit suggesting it was connected?

This had me going for a while as I had turned off the box and restarted it to the same problem!  It was only when I looked round the back I found the problem, it being connected to the wrong place, in fact it was not connected to anything, it was just lying across a large socket jammed in at a funny angle! I plugging it in to the correct socket then restarted the sky box and reset the router and this fixed it.

The main thing to try in check connections, reset router until lights flash, turn off Sky Box (30 seconds) then turn on Sky Box again, allow several minutes to power up and check it own settings.  Then it should reconnect to your router.

You may need to reset Sky Firewall, but that is no big deal. It usually boots up asking you to set this if completly powered down.

Re: Sky+ Box won't connect to the internet/router

This may help anyone who has a "new" TalkTalk router.

I have 3 SKY+ boxes, the one in the lounge is is our main one and it is wired ethernet to the Talk Talk router and works fine.  I've had it for several months. I don't use on demand much in the bedrooms but today I discovered my SKY+ HD boxes upstairs would not connect to the router. I noticed on the network settings screen I could see the name (SSID) of my new Talk Talk router displayed twice, which I thought was odd.

I tried all the rebooting and resetting routines and both WPS and manual password input, all to no avail and I was getting really frustrated.

Then it dawned on me that the new router has both a 2.4GHz and a 5GHz band signal and maybe the SKY+ box was trying to connect to the wrong one? I went in to the router settings using my laptop and saw that the name for both bands was the same. I changed the 5GHz band name (I just added "5G" to the end), saved and exited. Then I went back to the sky boxes, I could see both the new and the old network names and was able to select the 2.4GHz network and manually  enter the password. Bingo. Both boxes connected and I now have on demand on all boxes again.

I hope this might help others who are with Talk Talk or have similar 2 band routers.

Cheers

J

Re: Sky+ Box won't connect to the internet/router

A word of advice to people, do NOT repeatedly switch off \ on your internet modem router to cure this problem. You will cause the network provider's systems to detect an issue with your broad band connection. This will result in a SLOWER download speed for all devices on your network.

My multi room Sky+ HD box has started dropping the wifi network connection. When you try and reconnect, it just says it cannot find the network despite all other devices connecting ok. This is an issue with the wifi card in your box and MAY be due to the wifi signal where your 'other' box is located being particularly weak.

The easiest solution is to reboot your Sky box by switching off for a couple of minutes then back on again. When the green light shows via the Services option on the remote, access Network and re enter your network password or code.

If your modem router is dual band ie 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz, the further your Sky box is away from your modem router always connect your Sky box to the 2.4Ghz network as 2.4Ghz provides a stronger signal. Sky+ boxes are not dual band but will show both in a list of networks so it's important to know how to identify these and select the right one.

Most modem routers will identify the 5Ghz network by putting a '5' at the end of the network identifyer ABCNETWORK-5

If your Sky+ box continually drops the wifi connection, does not automatically re connect and you have to re boot the Sky box before it does, consider using a Home Plug to connect you box to your network. These devices us the mains cabling in your home to act like an ethernet wired connection to the net. These will give a more stable and faster connection by your Sky box to the net especially when downloading programmes.

Re: Sky+ Box won't connect to the internet/router

This is a good point, but most just find a problem now and again.  You can first try pressing SERVICES on your SKY REMOTE and scrolling along to the Network and trying to connect this way, or go to Catchup on the screen, this should trigger "You need a connection to the Internet Router" on screen, then follow the instructions.  You have three choices to connect, choose the one that is best for you.  The easiest is to press the button on the Router and press Select on your Sky Remote.  But there are two other options, however, I have found that this does not always work.  In fact I have only managed to use this once.  If you do get slowed down, just pick up the phone to Sky and tell them of the problem and that your Internet connection has slowed down bue to this problem.  I have had to call Sky before and I get through to Livingstone and they are on the whole helpful.  However, you can get pushed from pillar to post, so be prepared to spend some time on the phone with their greatly imflated charges for calling them.  Biut usually it does get instant results with them putting the speed back, if you get through to the right person.

Re: Sky+ Box won't connect to the internet/router

My catch up has stopped working. The router will not connect to my WI FI, although I have put in the password numerous times.  The correct sky network is shown,  but it will not connect

This is the problem, you have no option but turn the Sky Box off and restart it.

Sometimes you can get away with just turning off the Sky Box and leaving it for 30 seconds to completly run down, then restart it.  If you are lucky it willl connect automatically, but this is not a certainty.

However, shuting down both the Sky Box and the Rourer has always worked for me.

You can go into SERVICES on the remote and try to connect it that way, but I have only got this to work once.

I would like to know whyu it always keeps loosing connection so often.

I don't know about others, but the connection to Sky's servers appear to drop around three times a day for around 30 seconds, then it comes back with a different speed.  It appears to happen at the same time of day around 10am, 6pm and 10pm.  I have spoke to Sky about this but they say it is not them.  I have spoke to others and they have noticed the same and they are not from the same exchange, so it is a connection from Sky Servers.

I think that this connection drop is part of the problem, though Sky still says this does not happen, but when others say their Smart TV drops out at roughly the same time every night it makes you wonder!

The only way to make them connect and talk to each other is to switch them both off and allow to reboot.

If this affects your Internet speed, phone

Sky and complain you speed has dropped due to you having to turn off your router to get it to reconnect.

They do know about this problem, though they will pretend not to.  This will be a standard answer and this will be what staff has been told to say.  However, they can speed up your connection again, but you have got to push them to do it.  So don't be afraid to push them.  Saying that don't be nasty to the person at the other end, they are just doing their job, if you are calm and nice to them they are more likely to try to help you, so be nice, it will get you everywhere.

Re: Sky+ HD Box won't connect to the internet/router

I have Sky+HD box without a wps button.

I have a standard ethernet cable directly from my router to the green socket at the back of the sky box.

The network tab of the services menu indicates that both the connection to the broadband router and 'On Demand' is OK.

The assigned IP address is static and within the range of the rest of the network.

On selecting catchup TV I have a dialog box come up on the screen which says

"For Your Information There are no programmes of this type."

I have followed the various reboot/restart options on this thread.

I have also applied a full system reset.

At no time was I asked for the network ID or password

Any assistance on getting full connectivity would be appreciated.

Re: Sky+ Box won't connect to the internet/router

I am not sure what the problem you are having is, but if you have turned off the sky box and allowed it to sit for 30 seconds before restarting it and it still says this I would contact Sky.  It should allow you to find and download what is aviable to you.  However, it will not allow you to download any channels that you have not paid to view.

Try restarting the Sky bax first, if this does not work, restart them both (router and Sky box) this should allow you to reconnect.  If this fails, contact sky and ask to talk to someone from Technical, they should be able to advise you what is wrong.

Re: Sky+ Box won't connect to the internet/router

To input upper case, or numbers with your sky remote, you need to hold the item pressed down and it will scroll through eg press 'a' and you will get ABC1abc.... just stop pressing when you get the item up you want.

I had the same problem but now can't even get the option to manually reset or auto !

You can never get to speak to anyone at Sky you just get passed around pressing buttons . One day a service provider is going to sweep the market by offering real people (who talk english) to reply to ones problems !
