Revive or new contract using Sky+ box?

I am still using a Sky+ box for free channels approx 6 months after leaving my old Sky contract.

When I try to price up a new contract it only offers me Glass or Stream. Chatbot just directs me to the same.

Id like to just reuse the Sky+ box for basic channels and Sports ... I guess Ill have to try and speak to a human, but am I likely to be wasting my time?

@HHQ

Sky won't reactivate a previous Sky+ subscription. They aren't offered any more. You'd need to upgrade to Sky Q if you want to stay with satellite TV or change to Glass or Stream. You'd need to research Glass & Stream though.

Please Note: Sky+ is now a legacy/obsolete service that Sky are replacing with their newer services: Sky Glass, Sky Stream and Sky Q (Satellite TV is approaching end of life so is not a long term solution)

for basic channels and Sports ..

Perhaps also note that's not possible on any Sky-branded hardware: Sports is only available on top of the subscription bundles 'Essential TV', 'Signature' or 'Ultimate TV'.

For Sports without a minimum of £15 on an underlying channel bundle you'd need to look at NowTV

Re: Revive or new contract using Sky+ box?

Thanks for the responses.

I spoke to Sky and they confirmed they wouldnt enable paid channels on the old Sky+ box.

So I negotiated a new deal for Sky Q with Signature and Sports to be installed in a couple of weeks.

Ironically, all the channels have now started working on the old Sky+ box!

No complaints so far ... 🙂

hi @HHQ

Even though you have agreed to switch, you may  still benefit from reading some notes I have made for people considering switching from SKY +/HD to SKY Q

SKY +/HD to SKY Q

Re: Revive or new contract using Sky+ box?

Thats really helpful, thanks.

We have indeed been allocated a 1TB Sky Q Box, though this isnt mentioned anywhere in the contract documents. Ill send them a  message to try and get it changed - should I expect to pay more, as the 'better' box wasnt offered as an optional extra?

We are getting a single mini-box, and all hardware and installation was included at no charge. It is highly unlikely we will ever need another, but it could be a useful negotiating tactic to get the better Q Box!

If it is a 1TB UHD box then these are the latest boxes (which do support more than one mini) & the only difference between that & the latest 2TB is the disc size - 2TB boxes are now becoming thinner on the ground so it may just be worth checking if it is non UHD (with it's limitations) or a UHD one

Edit - If their offer is not a 1TB UHD box then they are likely to try to charge for 1TB UHD or a 2TB box
