Unable to open remote to replace batteries

I've tried all things recommended think there must be a knack to it but it's not budging thanks for any suggestions

Well that was weird, just thought I'd try one more time and somehow it opened.  Think I just turned it round the other way lengthwise, still with non-button side facing me
