UHD on projector

Hi,

I have recently moved to Sky Stream from Sky Q, for a number of reasons.

I'm reasonably impressed, so far, apart from a couple of issues; one minor, one less so.

The minor issue is CEC being problematic.

The major problem is that it refuses to play UHD on my projector. When I try to change, I just get a black screen, before it eventually switches back.

i know what the issue is, of course: I have a Sonos arc, hence have to interpose an HDFury Arcana. However, since this isn't an issue for either Sky Q, or AppleTV 4k, I don't see why it should be for the puck.

I am willing to either use a different eARC extractor, admitting defeat and cancelling UHD, or giving Sky Stream up as a bad job and cancelling my contract.
Any thoughts from the community?

Re: UHD on projector

@johnnybe Do you get the same result if you try and select UHD without HDR for a given on-demand programme, or is does the issue only present with UHD+HDR?

Looking through the manual for the HDFury Arcana, it looks to have the capability to try and translate HLG to HDR. From the website under special modes: DV/LLDV to HDR10 display, Boost HDR nits value, Translate HLG>HDR, HDMI Doctor

I'm wondering if the black screen might be related to either untranslated HLG from the Sky Puck isn't being recognised by the projector, or if the HLG Sky puck output is being mistranslated into HDR10 somehow.

EDIT: There is also a download page of firmware updates for the HDFury Arcana, the latest being version 0.87 released on 19 Dec 2023. It might be worth checking your device's firmware version and updating if required.

Re: UHD on projector

Great thoughts, CoffeeDrinker - much appreciated!

I'll have a play tomorrow to follow up on those leads the HLG->HDR10 hint is, I think, particularly promising...
