Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreHi @Pete52 and welcome to the forum. When the terrestrial TV app was released for Glass TVs the stream puck was also included. It appears as though this was in error as obviously the App is not needed for the puck as you can watch terrestrial channels on your own TV in the event of losing broadband.

Posted by a Sky employeeAs some of you may have noticed, last week we enabled the DTT-App on Sky Glass as one of the default available apps, meaning it is now accessible without the need to disconnect your internet 😊. However, as part of that update, the app catalog for Sky Stream was inadvertently updated with the same configuration, causing the app to become briefly available on Sky Stream. This was unintentional and has since been disabled.

So has it removed from your Glass TV as well?

No the aerial app is still available on my sky glass.
I don't understand why the pucks have an aerial socket on the back and we are unable to connect and watch terrestrial TV channels via it that are not available on sky.
Why can it not be activated or reinstated

I don't know this for sure but I guess the logic is that most users with a puck would have them plugged into a modern ish smart tv that has a much better freeview interface included . Glass users don't have that luxury therefore the app is still available

For some of the European countries the puck is sold in, there is a legal requirement for the device to be able to receive terrestial television hence why the socket is on the pucks, even though in most terriorities used its pointless.

Italy, for example. It's worth remembering in countries that have historically experienced unstable governments and even military coup attempts, direct state control of broadcasting (and broadcast reception) is still highly significant.

It's all a bit daft really isn't it?
It's a shame it's not like the Hubbl Hub in Australia (their version of the Stream puck) which actually asks if you want to attach an aerial and scan for free to air channels on first startup. If you don't want to use an aerial you don't have to as most of the same channels can be streamed via the on board apps instead. What's good though is that the channels are all available via the one EPG, be they streamed or received via antenna - it's up to the customer to choose which they use.
I suspect that in Sky's case, it's to do with audience tracking. They want to know what you're watching at all times and the rudimentary nature of the TV input app probably doesn't allow this from FTA channels.
I suspect that the recent change on Sky Glass to allow access to the aerial input without having to turn off the broadband connection is something to do with Glass Gen 2. If the new model is indeed a cheaper, more 'traditional' type of TV without the multi-colour options and soundbar, then it needs to act more like a 'traditional' TV. Customers don't want to have to faff around with the network connection just to watch something on free-to-air, especially if Currys are going to be selling them direct from the shop floor.
