I save my program favourites on the puck. Unfortunately they keep disappearing? Why won't they stay "saved"?

Ah so your channel favourites.
In that case it's possible you have the refresh setting turned on which means your favourite channel list will constantly update based on your watching habits, so the channels you have watched most recently will tend to move further up the favourites list and channels you haven't watched will be removed.
Open Settings -> View Preferences -> Manage favourite channels and then check that the refresh option is turned off.

When you say program favourites do you mean you are adding shows to the playlist?
Once you add a show to the playlist if you press the + button on the remote again it will remove it from the playlist, as you add the entire show rather than individual episodes.
