It's quite common for software to contain some open source libraries for common features/functionality that are generally present in most applications (e.g logging).  Typically reusing these is a way to shorten development time and cost as otherwise the software developers would need to create their own code from

scratch to cover the functionality that the library is providing.

The most interesting thing is not the use of Open Source code itself, but that GPL forces Comcast to list all the different hardware running on the same codebase.
