Sky Stream OS

Well details have just been released via an email.  Has it gone 'live' yet and has anyone got it yet?  The hype looks good but the proof of the pudding as they say!   Is this infact the new release we have all been waiting for?

From reading the press release its just a rename/rebranding of the OS from EntertainmentOS to SkyOS.

They have sent emails out like that before. Typically once or twice a year where they just summise new features or changes that have rolled out in software updates over the past several months.

One of the things Sky are very good at is marketing.

Sky OS is just the new name for Entertainment OS on Glass & Stream.

Software updates will just continue in a similar vein to how they have done for the past few years. There's no grand unveiling of any new features. They've already happened.

Re: Sky Stream OS

I was really hoping for true multiple profiles for family members paying for whole home considering my stream subscription is increasing by almost 10 pounds and that now tv are introducing multiple profiles I do wonder which of the two sky owned services is the way forward I really like stream but now tv has caught up and exceeded in features it's difficult to know which is best also after putting up my stream they have also emailed me from now tv offering me a really good deal it kinda feels like they want us to move to now tv. I wish stream did true ad free like you get on now tv and also true individual profiles also coming to now.

For me comparing Sky and NOW is apples and oranges. NOW is a replacement for individual packages of Sky channels (entertainment, cinema, sports) but it's not a comparable offering in itself and you have to supplement it with apps for any non-Sky channels you want as well. It can be cheaper if you just want to watch sports, but imo it's not comparable as an overall TV platform.

Proper multiple profiles would be nice for sure. The skip ads button they recently added makes it easier but I do think they'd have been better just pre-skipping on users behalf, feels a bit like an own-goal that.

The key difference is that one is an OS and the other is an app.

SkyOS (formerly Entertainment OS) only runs on Sky hardware - Glass or puck - and offers live channel streams and access to a variety of third party apps, along with bundle offers such as 'free' Netflix, Discovery+ and Paramount+ (with Sky Cinema). It also is a good content aggregator, with the ability to search and stream content from a variety of sources.

The NOW app runs on various types of hardware, on various operating systems. It only offers live Sky channel streams and Sky on demand content. There are no bundle offers with third parties.

But, as I've discovered, if NOW is used on a device such as the Apple TV 4K box, which runs Apple's own tvOS, much of the same functionality can be achieved. Voice control, watchlists, search across multiple apps, continue watching, individual profiles, UHD, HDR, Atmos, etc. It doesn't have the ability to channel hop between live TV channels, so that can be a deal breaker for many, but everything else it does just as well, and often better, than Sky Stream.

The fact that Sky have allowed both options to exist and give the customer the choice is a very good thing.

Re: Sky Stream OS

When will it change on the pucks from entertainment to Sky OS?

No one on the community has a roadmap so the advice as always is to wait, it will be rolled out when Sky roll it out.

@Super+Anthony  I'm not sure why you are so eager to get Sky OS.  As already posted above it is exactly the same as your current Entertainment OS except they have changed the name.
