Sky Sports UHD picture keeps stuttering

So, the good news is that after making the changes to the pucks Picture and Sound settings during the ad break on the Man City v Chelsea match (Sky Sports UHD channel 401), the second half of the match was perfect!

To recap - I made the folllwimg changes in settings on the puck: 

1. Changed picture to UHD

2. Changed sound to Passthrough 

3. Restart puck

Voila, it's been perfect since.

@Gareth61 My settings have always been UHD and sound set to pass through. Oddly over the weekend I haven't had any issues while watching on 922 Low Latency channel. Thought they might have found a fix!!

Since moving the sound to Passthrough last night, I have tried it out on channel 922 this afternoon since 5pm, and its all been ok at this stage. Not getting carried away though, as want to give it longer.

Only issue is that it still shows as HD, rather than UHD, when you click on select button

Can someone explain in a simple way what does Passthrough mean and do, and the advantage of using it? I am also using an external sound bar

Passthrough passes the raw audio stream direct to your TV/sound system for the TV/audio system to process whereas, if the puck audio is set to one of the other settings, it processes the audio and passes in to the TV/sound system as per the setting.

Thanks @Ashlar. I presume you still get the full sound from the 5.1 sound system. I think you do as I can hear it

Yes you do. A lot of streams are Dolby Digital Plus (with embedded ATMOS where appropriate).  My Sony TV shows it is receiving ATMOS( Dolby Digital+) when set to Passthrough for content with ATMOS sound

Oddly, though, I get some momentarily sound dips on some adverts (not all) on HD channels, which doesn't happen in the programs.   Nor does it happen if the pucks sound setting is set to one of the other settings - must be an incompatibility between the TV's sound codec and the one used in the advert - not a big deal as it's only in adverts.

@THeG Live sports are streamed in 4K in America. Peacock has the Premier League, Champions League is on Paramount+ and the NFL broadcasts across the platforms.

Leicester West Brom on 922 tonight is stutter free. My pet theory for all this very annoying business is that the Premier League feed for games has some processing for Sky graphics and onscreen logo's which causes the issues for the UHD  channels. I haven't seen it in tennis or darts broadcasts or EFL. Just a theory though.

@robtodd What is your sound setting on? I have moved it to passthrough but maybe that's not the reason then if I haven't had any stutter as per what you have said

@Super+Anthony At the moment passthrough. However tonight I've used Auto and stereo with no effect on the picture. It's ticked along with no problems whatsoever.

Interesting. Maybe I will put it back. I suspect by changing it tonight is irrelevant as I changed it to passthrough last week during a PL game and I still got the issues

 I will try it again this week with the PL games and see what happens

 I suspect we still need answers from Sky @robtodd
