No because the last thing they want is updates messing up during the holidays.

Will we have the chance to submit our thoughts/complaints direct to Sky? I have been using this new OS for a few days and I'm already looking for a way to revert. It's terrible. Saying that, I imagine it's only terrible for people (like me) who rarely watch live TV. All the apps and features I access are now inconveniently placed! The communication has been very poor too, even the onscreen advice was severely lacking. I hope there are many more updates to come.

@Monty84 , if you really want to leave the trial, instructions on how to do so can be found here: https://www.sky.com/help/articles/sky-os-trial  .

Typically, during beta testing, documentation and instructions are limited because the software isn't final and will change as new features are added. It's very rare for any company running beta testing to provide and constantly update detailed documentation and instructions for all features because things change so quickly and new features roll out so fast.  Also, any time they utilise to ensure the documentation is thoroughly accurate is time taken away from fixing the bugs reported and adding in the new features.

@Yoghurt @At some point in December sky along with other companies freeze updates to reduce the risk of any major issues while on reduced staff

@Yoghurt if you ran a company that provides entertainment services would you risk an issue affecting millions  by releasing some software at the time usage of your service is at the maximum and your support staff are wanting to be with their families? A code freeze from mid December to a week or so into the New Year is sensible.

Indeed - change freezes over the christmas and new year period is extremely common across all software development.

Re: New Sky OS 2.0

Just quickly skimmed through these answers so unsure if everything I'm posted has been addressed, but here are my thoughts:

  1. I love the new UI for the home tabs, although it is very laggy
  2. However, I think the apps should perhaps take a more prominent place on the Home screen, so it's quicker to access. I know I can use voice search but it'd be nice to not have to rely on it
  3. The new voice search is very good, despite my previous complaint!
  4. The Live TV navigation is disastorous, the previous interface was aesthetically much nicer and easier to read. I hate how the UI when pressing select takes up half the screen, the new way to flick through channels is horrifically slow and not intuative at all - shame from Sky who I've always admired their UI design for ease of use
  5. Recordings feature is great
  6. I love the new TV Guide, and the use of channel logos - however, with such space between the channel logo and channel number (when viewing the full EPG) a lot of the more horizontal logos (e.g. Sky Sports, TNT Sports, Sky Cinema etc...) appear very squashed and unreadable, if the wide space is there it'd be nice to allow longer logos to expand and be readable
  7. Similar to EPG logo complaints, when viewing all the BBC One regional variants, they all just display as "BBC ONE HD" with no indication of what region, this does not apply for Wales, Scotland and NI though so it's a very minute issue
  8. Personally I think the 'My Account' menu should just be accessed via the settings tab, rather than having it's own. A 'Cinema' tab simialr to Sports would be good - but I realise this would require a lot of work to do!

@jxsh95

Excellent summary of your experiences so far.

Re your voice comment.

I do use voice quite a lot, but do sometimes find a few clicks on remote quicker sometimes, like you do have it in your hand anyway with a Sky Stream puck.

The new voice I'm finding is much improved lot and more as it mentions in the Sky OS 2 help article (link below), it's use of 'conventional language', with new features of content Q and A, recommendations and where and when to watch.

Im sure that will grow too in time.

Re: New Sky OS 2.0

I would agree with most of the above.

Although I am not getting the lag. Mine is super responsive and snappy.
I love the new interface, except for as already said, easy access to apps and a dedicated cinema menu would make sense.

Also I asked in a previous post if the excellent new record function will in time include BBC, ITV & Channel 4. Is there any update on this?

thanks

Re: New Sky OS 2.0

Can you be more specific as nothing seems to have changed since the launch despite multiple notifications of issues.

Re: New Sky OS 2.0

Can I ask will we keep the new OS now until it's rolled out to everyone or will we all be reverted to OS 1.0 before this happens. I am loving the new OS and wouldn't want to lose it, thanks

@Hoover123  Whilst Sky haven't actually said I don't think OS2 Beta will be reverted to OS1.3 it wouldn't make sense to do that.

Re: New Sky OS 2.0

If you use the remote to change to the next channel from favourites it does not flow properly. BBC 1, BB2, ITV, etc.

If you on the BBC One HD and in a different area. So for example East Midlands the next channel will repeat to BBC One HD in a different area because  it follows the channel number which would be correct but you should be able to set area elsewhere. So only have one BBC One channel etc.
