Why are there so few music channels on Sky Stream v Sky Q - are there plans to add the missing music channels to Stream?

@Ian131  No one on the forum can tell you if the music channels not currently will join stream, it is up to those channels to want to be on stream

The full list of channels on stream is freely available and prior to getting stream so you can see which channels are included.  https://www.sky.com/help/articles/tv-channel-list-sky-glass

@Exiled-in-HH they should be rebranded as advert channels with the odd music video 😆

There will be even less when C4 close down their music network

Indeed, most music channels seem to be shutting down so i'd expect new ones launching on Stream to not really happen.

Don't forget that Channel 4 have plans to shut down the music channels they operate, i believe by the end of this year.

Re: Music Channels on Sky Stream

Virgin have just launched a raft of extra music channels on their stream service including Now 80's and 90's along with clubland. The general answer on here when any customer enquires about new channels seems to put the burden on the broadcaster. If this is the case why how have Virgin been able to launch their full cable service on Virgin stream ??

I had to search this question too. Am so disappointed with the 4 I have. Honestly you get more music channels with free view. What's the story with that lads?

A part of it is quite likely that music television channels are slowly dying off.

Note all the music channels operated by Channel 4 will be closing later this year as they just aren't economical to run anymore.

Re: Music Channels on Sky Stream

But still, when your paying for sky TV, and your friend has free view with more music channels, which is my main go to when I watch TV in the evening to chill, its a bit of an annoyance to be fair.

True but the difference with the new streaming platform vs the older satellite platform is that on the old platform of a channel paid a fee to be carried on satellite they would have to appear on the EPG. With the streaming platforms the channels that get carried is essentially decided by Sky. Both Sky and the broadcaster would need to be willing to have the channel carried over the streaming platform and Sky also has a list of requirements that's a channel would need to meet in order to be able to broadcast on their platform.

Another thing to consider is that predominately the streaming service is designed for on-demand content and there is less of a push for live channels. As the majority of viewers consume music from radio and streaming services like Spotify and Amazon Music the presence of radio and music apps on the platform is designed to be the predominant place to get your music fix.

Have a look at the vevo app, its totally free on Sky now.
It has four live channels currently, sometimes more.
There is a huge On demand section to browse for many eras of music and genres, even Country and Classical that you often do not get on music tv output.
Plenty of playlists also within the On demand section.

Plus there is plenty of free music in the music section of youtube and many playlists if it makes it easier.
You could try the Roxi app too, more karaoke style mind. It has been offered many times in the Mysky app for the 'extra' bits that go with Roxi.
Spotify are also now playing out videos, mostly at the moment if your a premium member.
Last weekend saw quite a lot that were free. Its only in beta mode at the moment for videos, so will get better.
Spotify are always offering premium for many months as a free to try and always seeing offers from many sourecs you can add to your account that work for returning customers.
