Moving to Sky Stream from Sky Q

Hi.  I'm currently a Sky Q customer, paying £40.50 per month for Sky Signature and £27.50 for broadband.  By June, that would have jumped up to the exhorbitant amount of £77.50.

I'm looking to switch to Sky Stream, as we don't save anything and tend to watch streaming TV via apps.  I've seen it advertised as low as £15 per month, however when I try to order it, I get told it's:

  • Sky Ultimate £32
  • Sky Ads skipping of £6
  • For a total of £40 per month!!! and a set-up fee of £39.95

I don't even know what's on the Sky Ultimate package, but I'm really only after the basic.

I did try messaging yesterday, but was being some very different prices over chat, always with the final comment of "is that good", as if the individual just wanted to close out a deal as soon as possible.

Any thoughts on the above would be very much appreciated.  Also, I used to phone a Sky support team in Scotland, who were absolutely amazing and very helpful.  Does that team still exist?

What you're after is probably Sky Stream with the Essential TV pack. You can see the channel list on this page:

https://www.sky.com/help/articles/tv-channel-list-sky-glass

It should cost about £15pm on a 24 month contract.

Ad skipping is an optional charge and only works on selected apps. You can often get it for free on trial offers via the MySky app. The same applies to UHD/Atmos if that is of interest.

There is normally a £39.95 activation fee for the Stream puck itself. This covers the cost of postage and warranty for as long as you subscribe. The puck is loaned to you and needs to be returned if you choose to cancel.

Sky is apparently expanding its Livingston base, although at the expense of several other contact centres in England which have been closed.  Realistically the 2018 change in ownership when Sky Group became an overseas division of the Comcast Corporation would have had an effect on staffing policy.

Dialing the Sky number will be routed to one of many centres, including those overseas.

Re: Moving to Sky Stream from Sky Q

Thanks for your reply.  What I keep getting though, whenever I try to sign-up for Sky Stream, is their Ultimate TV package, with ad skipping, and with no option to downgrade to something more reasonable/sensible.

Whenever I've tried to message an agent, all I get offered are upgrades to my existing Sky Q package or an increase to my broadband, which is already sufficient at 150mbps.  I then get told that they can do a deal on my existing package, for the same price!!  I then get asked if I'd like to add Sky Kids...... our son is 21 and at Uni.  He doesn't want to watch Peppa Pig!!

All I want to do, is reduce my package to one we'd actually use.  🤣

Re: Moving to Sky Stream from Sky Q

Thanks, it's been a right royal pain in the proverbial chatting to Sky's agents.  The virtual agent seems to just go round in circles, and the human agents just want to up-sell.

Saying that I had one interesting conversation whereby the agent told me click a link and answer a security question.  Working in cyber, there's no way I'm clicking a random link....  When I explained this, the response I got was "thank you for clicking the link and for correctly saying 'boat'".  🙄

I think your best bet is probably to keep trying to speak to someone at Sky as I believe that's the only way to switch from Q to Stream without switching to Ultimate TV.

Just be firm about what you want and don't let them deviate from that.

Re: Moving to Sky Stream from Sky Q

There's often promotions for Sky Ultimate if you signup to a 24/mo contract.

I signed up a few weeks ago, at £22/mo for the sky ultimate, with free setup and a 3 month trial of ad skipping (then £6/mo)

Slightly less than the £40/mo you feared.

Re: Moving to Sky Stream from Sky Q

Just noticed you have Sky Q, definitely tell the agent you expect to be given the same deal as a new customer would - hardly fair for them to charge more just because you have a different service with them.
