Moving Temporarily

Hi,

We are moving out of our house for a few months while it is being refurbished.

Is it possible to be permitted to take our puck with us and set up in the temporary accommodation?  I know it is not possible to just travel around with the puck and connect it but our circumstances seem different. Alternatively can we pause our contract while we are unable to receive any services?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks.

@Giacometti  The only legal way would be to change the registered address on your sky account to the temporary address and then back again

however this will only work if the temporary address has no existing sky tv service if does you can't use yours

you can't suspend services you would need to cancel and re subscribe provided your not in contract

Re: Moving Temporarily

Thanks @Exiled-in-HH

Contacted Sky and their reply is as follows:

'Thanks **********, so I can see that you have Sky Stream.

As long as the temporary address that you are moving too for the 4 months, has an internet connection that is suitable then you can take your Stream to the new address.'.

I used the on-line chat which was prompt and simple.

Thank you again.

@Giacometti You would still need to change the address on your sky accout to avoid being in breach of contract and avoid a potiental different location charge.

Re: Moving Temporarily

Thanks @SKY1992bf   But that's not what Sky said when I asked the question.

Not sure how I can be in breach of my contract when permission has been provided?  Should I not accept what Sky say?

The response came from one of the specialist 'Moving Team'.

Re: Moving Temporarily

Posted by a Sky employee

Hi All

Both things can be true here, and it very much depends on an individual's circumstances. I'd expect if you’re moving into the property for four months that the previous person would have cancelled their service. If Sky is paid by the landlord at the new address, then the best action would be to cancel your sky stream subscription (providing you're not in contract).

Officially, there should only be one account per address whether that be satellite, glass or stream, however things aren't always black and white.  The home move experts would be in the best position to provide the correct information after reviewing things.

Thanks

Re: Moving Temporarily

Thanks @KevNewMedia

No existing Sky at the temporary home.

It turns out that we can't even get the TV to work at the moment so this is all a bit academic!  It seems bizarre that nobody has a definitive answer.  I will rely on a screenshot of the advice I have been given by Sky's own move expert team.

If Sky are monitoring this forum I would expect them to tell me if their own advice is incorrect.

Thanks all,

G
