Re: QS025 Lip Sync Issues

Thanks Paul - much appreciated, to be honest I'm a tech numpty - so wouldnt know jhow to fix what you are talking about - much appreciated tho!

Why didn't Sky tell me this when I paid them a lot of money yesterday?

This is very poor service, selling a service that does not deliver what it says must be illegal under the trades description act - they knew there was a probelm, but took my money!

This is abhorrent and shows a total disregard for a customer -

Re: Lip Sync issues - Sky Stream

Is it just me, or has this got worse of late? The lip sinc is now way out - watching the BBC coverage of the Olympic tennis the sound of the ball being hit on serve didn't reach my ears until after the ball had been hit by the opposing player. Getting on for a second of delay at times. And the sound drop-outs are now more frequent and for longer - up to three seconds. Films via Sky are particularly badly affected.

This really is beyond a joke now.

Re: Lip Sync issues - Sky Stream

FYI. I've just signed up to Sky Cinema via the NOW app with their new Ultra Boost add-on. All the movies with UHD & Atmos play perfectly in sync on my Samsung TV app and 4K Firestick. Same with HD 5.1 movies too.
This is 100% an issue with just the Stream puck.

Re: Lip Sync issues - Sky Stream

I've decided to end my subscription with Sky and send the puck back. Couple of weeks ago I thought that they would address my ongoing problems with HDR and Atmos not being consistent as well as the lip sync issues. Netflix and Prime are unwatchable because of the sync issues.

After not hearing anything about a replacement puck, which was agreed on a couple of weeks ago, I telephoned the the technical department again. Another issue had risen it's head in that everytime I put the puck into standby it reverts back to 1080 from 2160. Must be an issue with the TV I was told. Nope direct to AVR. Then it's a problem with your AVR. Nope it's your crappy puck.

To top it all $ky will now start charing an extra £6 per month to have an ad free service for Netflix and I believe, I may well be wrong here, that 4K and HDR will also be put behind this pay wall. Final nail in the coffin for me.

Re: Lip Sync issues - Sky Stream

"Synching issues are only a few months old".

Totally unacceptable. This is not the first time there have been issues with sync on the Pucks. There was a similar issue last year.

The sync issue was bad a few months ago, and became considerably worse after the last update. The people complaining here do not pay the fees to Sky each month for these types of issues. I don't personally care if there's a workaround. If the software was beta tested properly, these types of issue would be less frequent.

Sky have always charged extra for the higher ad-free tiers of Netflix on Stream. I think it's currently £11pm extra on Stream for Netflix Premium (4K). It was Netflix themselves who introduced ads on the basic tier.
You can get it cheaper with other providers. I pay £10pm for Netflix Premium as a perk with my EE SIM only deal.

Re: Lip Sync issues - Sky Stream

@Mister_Dalek Realise that now. Still going to cancel subscription though. I watch so very little using Stream, including Sky's miserable 4K offerings it's money down the drain. Can't watch Netflix because of the lip sync issues and using Apple TV+ or my TV's own app is far better experience both for PQ and certainly SQ.

Re: Lip Sync issues - Sky Stream

The problem with all TV subscriptions is that they don't reward loyalty.

I think business like Sky are missing a point, rewarding long term customers with discounts must say you money.

People feel that they are being taken advantage of because they like the service.

Its very simple, the more years you invest in SKY, the lower your bill should be.

Its a principle thing, after 2 years u should earn a 10% discount, after 4 years a 15% discount, and so on.

Reward loyal customers.

That's what I've done too. 👍

@Chris4Stream  It would certainly be nice if you got a discount relevant to your years of subscription.  From your example of 15% discount after 4 years I would have a little over a 90% discount 😄.  I suspect Sky will argue that the VIP programme rewards your loyalty but TBH I have very seldom found anything there that interests me.

@Mister_Dalek  If you are no longer a Sky subscriber one wonders why you are active on a Sky forum but that is your prerogative.

Re: Lip Sync issues - Sky Stream

Sync issues have been a major problem for years on SkyQ and they seem to have been carried over onto Sky Stream. Surely Sky has the software skills to sort this. Workarounds which include switching off SkyQ are solutions from the days of early Windows crashes in the 1980's. Surely in 2024 a sync issue can't be that difficult to fix for all configurations and types of tv????

Just trying to help customers make informed decisions. There's no rule to say you have to be a current subscriber to post on this forum.

Re: Lip Sync issues - Sky Stream

It was an example, not a mathematical precise example.

One of the things I hate about these forums is how you instantly get jumped upon by a Superuser, who knows who nothing  about you, how much you pay a month how how long you have been a SKY customer, no, its just an instant defence of SKY.

Any post, BANG, superuser comes in to defend SKY.

@Mister_Dalek apologies, I wasn't trying to imply there was.  My point was if I was no longer a subscriber I just wouldn't be bothered with the forum any more.

@Chris4Stream  I'm not sure where I was supporting Sky.  I was basically agreeing with you that a discount for previous years of subscription would be good and saying their reward programme (VIP) was pretty poor with nothing of interest for me.
