Is it time for Sky puck V2

I think everyone who has a Sky puck is totally fed up with it. Surely it's time for Sky to admit how bad it is and realease version 2, either a software overhaul or a new box with new software.

There's plenty of discusssions here with people venting their frustrations with it, is Sky listening, or just accepting the subscriptions?

My annoyances....

1.Sound/vision synching problems.

2. It doeasn't start on the same chanel you turned it off on.

3. One minute your pressing the button up to go up the chanels, another time pressing the button up to go down the chanels.

4. I want to record a programme, NOT series link the whole series.

5. I opted out of adverts, I can live with them, but after watching five minutes of adverts and then fast forwarding the next bit of the programe, it goes back to the beginning of the original advert!

6. Waiting for the programe to load........

7. THE WORST THING...........'watch from the start' pop up. It comes on anywhere between half a second and 6 seconds. JUST GET RID OF IT ALTOGETHER!!!!!!

There's probably more that you can add to my list.

Come on Sky, start working for your money!

Not quite correct.

The Xfinity X1 is a different term for a variety of different boxes used by Xfinity customers.

The Sky Stream puck is actually based on the Xfinity XiOne box which is essentially an identical piece of hardware in a different shell, running a different OS.

The Xfinity XiOne box has since been re-branded as the Xumo Stream box by Xfinity/Comcast. It remains identical to the Sky Stream puck internally.

There have been no announcements made by Comcast regarding any sort of hardware update.

@larky+marky   On the whole I agree with you, a lot of improvements are needed.  One point I particularly disagree with is when you turn the puck on it going to the last channel you watched.  I very definitely do not want that.  If I was watching a film or a sports match it would be disasterous if I turned back on before the program had finished.  I love the way it is, you can turn on at anytime without worrying plus if I turn on when someone else in the house is asleep I can browse without noise.

Re: Is it time for Sky puck V2

Completely agree. Puck needs updating and fit for purpose of streaming. It's been out long enough for Sky to have sorted the issues out

 1. Pixelation and Sound cut outs particularly channel 922

2. Agree fully @larky+marky Should not have to record a series to record one programme

3. To pay £6 for ad skipping is very unfair for how much we pay for the product (which doesn't function as good as it should)

I will say Sky stream is an improvement from Q

Hi @larky+marky

All these issues are fixable in software not hardware so not sure how a new version of the puck would fix any of this. Glass operates in the same way. If Sky were going to launch a new puck it would have been likely to have been announced when gen 2 glass was launched.

However I do agree that the growth / improvements on the platform seeme to be slow compared to some of Sky's competition, and given the costs we all face in terms of number of streaming services etc I think customer expectations are far grater than ever before.

My annoyances....

1.Sound/vision synching problems. My lips sync issues were resolved by the last update a few weeks ago but I am fully aware that many people have not been so fortunate and are still having issues.

2. It doeasn't start on the same chanel you turned it off on. Nor did Sky Q and TBH I prefer it as it is for the reasons already mentioned by @Stephen+Mourton .

3. One minute your pressing the button up to go up the chanels, another time pressing the button up to go down the chanels. Agreed this is very annoying but it was also the case with Sky Q.  I still frequently move in the wrong direction.

4. I want to record a programme, NOT series link the whole series. I would be nice but I don't think it will happen as this is a streaming service.

5. I opted out of adverts, I can live with them, but after watching five minutes of adverts and then fast forwarding the next bit of the programe, it goes back to the beginning of the original advert!  I have read other posts where this is happening but luckily I have not experienced it myself (yet).

6. Waiting for the programe to load........ This is an ongoing issue that Sky are trying to resolve.  I get the loading issue quite often   but a simple reboot always resolves it.

7. THE WORST THING...........'watch from the start' pop up. It comes on anywhere between half a second and 6 seconds. JUST GET RID OF IT ALTOGETHER!!!!!! I also found this was particularly annoying when I did it by accident but I would not like to see the option removed as I frequently use it and can be very useful.  My main concern (particularly with the iPlayer) is if you use WFS for one episode of a programme iPlayer assumes you want to watch every future episode as well which is often not the case.  This wouldn't be a problem if there was an easy way to to permanently delete programmes from the CW rail (but that is a differnt  issue and my pet hate with the streaming platform).

There's probably more that you can add to my list.

Hi @larky+marky I know where you are coming from and agree the Stream puck is certainly not perfect.  However if a new version was released I personally would not jump to upgrade until it proves to be more reliable.  Better the devil you know etc.

I have tried to make some constructive comments and observations above 😀

Re: Is it time for Sky puck V2

I find it strange why people have issues with the puck not turning on to the last channel you viewed before switching off. It's just one press to the left after turning  on to find the last viewed channel.

Re: Is it time for Sky puck V2

Since figuring out the correct audio settings, mine is now pretty faultless tbh but I would like an update to bring HDR10+ support and it's royalty free so it wouldn't cost Comcast/Sky anything other than a bit of coding time...

Quite so. New hardware isn't what is required.

Re: Is it time for Sky puck V2

The sky streaming box (puck) was not designed or made by Sky.  The puck is based on the Xfinty X1, Xfinity and Sky are both part of the Comcast group.

Please don't expect Sky to design their own new V2 of Sky stream - they won't, and V2 will be based on a new box that is produced within the Comcast companies.

Many of the points you raise are software not hardware related

Sky/Comast will never bring out a new box with that has the ability to record for various reasons - but mainly down to rights issues, even the BT/EE streaming box does not now record any BBC channels where it did from the beginning - it now simply link to player as sky stream does.

Re: Is it time for Sky puck V2

I have three Pucks, with zero issues, over the past year or so.

I have a problem with accessing Discovery Plus, but nothing, hardware related.

Re: Is it time for Sky puck V2

Sooner the better. Something more needs to be done whether it's a new puck or better software and there are enough people who are suffering with different issues.

I keep saying it's a great product but needs to work better

Yesterday on channel 922 I was watching the F1 and then got the annoying black screen. It's nothing to do with my network or ISP
