I suspect that since it's not affecting everyone, it's something to do with a specific server that certain customers are connected to. 

Perhaps it's a busier server with more congestion and the resulting added latency is preventing the Netflix app (hosted on the server) from receiving the correct information about the individual customer's setup. 

The Netlix app needs to check whether the customer's TV is capable of receiving UHD/Dolby Vision/HDR10,Atmos etc, and therefore needs to receive the EDID notification in a timely manner before it opens the app. Perhaps the added latency from a busy Sky server, coupled with a slower upload speed from the customer's broadband is preventing this happening fast enough and the Netflix app is defaulting to its lowest possible resolution, hence the poor, low quality image.

Guess that might depend on whether they have their own infrastructure, or whether they are Cloud hosted?

 

Interesting thought though, although if it was a server related issue I would have thought that would be relatively easy to identify and fix?

Much of SkyOS runs from a server, including all the third party apps. This is where Sky Stream differs from most other streaming devices. The puck itself is merely a slave device, very little is stored on it. It's all part of Comcast's proprietary global streaming platform.

Yes - but surely any tech team would be able to identify if there was a rogue server and have it replaced/swapped out? Appreciate it is only speculation. Frustrating as it is for those impacted.

I'm sorry to hear that the problem is still impacting some of you, and thank you for the tag @lettice 

 

For those of you still impacted, can I check that it is only the Netflix app that is having trouble and other apps work fine?

I'm also having issues with Paramount+. It is crashing on open regularly. 

the constant restarts are also causing my stream to do weird things. Like lose my watch history etc.

Just Nextflix via the sky puck, all other streaming services ect are fine.

Yes just the Netflix app. But in fact I checked last night and the image has returned to normal! Hoping it has been fixed permanently now, thanks

Only Netflix. Only on one of my two pucks though. Problems sometimes self resolved then returns next time i watch. Sometimes a reboot works. Most of the time not.
