I did do it on the box but using the sky Q app. I've managed to get it to work on my phone now, though the sky box still requests a paid for upgrade. Not the end of the world as I can cast from my phone.

We've put together a Community News article for some guidance on signing in to Discovery+, please see here.
We've identified one of the main hurdles a customer faces when trying to access Discovery+ content is signing in with the wrong email address. This email address can differ from the email address you use for Sky, Netflix and other apps.
To check if you're signed in with the correct credentials go to 'Account' and check if this says ‘discovery+ via Sky’, if it doesn't this is the wrong email address or you may not have linked the account to Sky yet, you can do this here: https://www.discoveryplus.com/link
