Presumably because that would further undermine the television advertising market (which is hugely struggling already) and cause commercial station income to drop even more.

App owners set their own policy: Sky cannot make them participate in Ad Skipping (for what would only be a tiny sliver of that £5 per user per month revenue)

Re: Automate Ad Skipping

The add removal option on ITVX compensates ITV for complete loss of ad revenue on their service ... and is completely separate to the ad skipping subscription on Sky Stream😉

It's perhaps indicative of how cheaply television advertising time is now being sold that £5.99 a month per household can do that.

Sorry for the earlier typos. This app does not let me edit

I understand why ITVX charge £5. Does ad skipping on Sky work with ITVx ad free.?

I would  like additional answers  as to why ad skipping is not automated on Sky?

Thanks.

You won't get any answer from Sky on that: as I said our best guess would be that if £5 to remove adverts entirely was split between multiple channels it could not possibly replace the consequent loss of advertising income to those channels when companies know no-one in that household is seeing their television advertising at all any more: remember it's inherent to online delivery that they can get second by second information on viewing habits.

Essentially the TV advertising market which has been fundamental to the commercial viability of multi-channel television since the 1950s (three quarters of a century ago) is now almost completely broken, and everyone involved is scrabbling around trying to find alternatives before channels start failing financially: Ad Skipping isn't a particularly good solution, but it's an attempt to do something.

The way ad skipping works is all detailed nicely in this Sky help article.

https://www.sky.com/help/articles/ad-skipping-sky-glass

C5 app also allows you to ff through the  ads, exactly like C4 and ITVx do.

Have reported that article to Sky, but they have yet to update it with the C5 details.

I watch a lot within the ITVx, C4 and C5 apps and its quick and easy when in those apps to ff through the ads with the remote.

To answer your question, if you take out a premium prescription directly with ITVX then it is AD free not skipping whilst watching content via the ITVX app.

Re: Automate Ad Skipping

Paying for an ITVX  subscription will remove ads completely ... Sky ad skipping only allows FF of ads on a Sky Stream device🤔

The annual ITVsubscription is currently £19.99😉

Re: Automate Ad Skipping

Ad skipping works for me on ITVX with the Sky add on. The £5 charge from ITVX is to move to their premium plan which has additional content

Re: Automate Ad Skipping

If, like us, you don't watch much Channel 5 stuff, then it's much better paying £19.99 for a year of ITVX Premium and £39.99 for a year of Channel 4+ (which comes to about £4.99pm in total) This gives us a completely ad-free experience when watching any ITV or Channel 4 stuff on demand.

I find the fast forwarding to be quite slow and often glitchy on Sky Stream - it really lets the box down in my opinion. Everything else about it is great but there's nothing more annoying than the fast forwarding suddenly glitching and throwing you back into a random point of the stream you were watching. It then takes ages to rewind and fast forward to the precise bit you were at.
