Re: ''FAILED TO INSTALL WIDEVINE COMPONENTS'' ERROR: DOWNLOAD ERROR 404 (UNDE|FINED)

I gave up as I was fed up of trying all the different 'ideas' I had seen or heard of 😞 Hope you sort it out.

Re: ''FAILED TO INSTALL WIDEVINE COMPONENTS'' ERROR: DOWNLOAD ERROR 404 (UNDE|FINED)

Alas, not, that said I work in IT, and that error says to me that the install package is connecting to a server that it cannot find. Only way to resolve this is likely a recompile of the installation file, reinstatement of the original location, or for someone to tell us what resource it is trying to look at so we can check the PC's / firewalls are not blocking access

that has to be for Sky and the developers to look into.

sad they have not looked at it so far.

I'm having exactly the same issue on Mac, running the latest OS. Just downloaded "SkyStoreDesktop" and when trying to launch, I get:

"Failed to install Widevine components. Error: Download error: 404[undefined]"Screenshot 2025-09-08 at 15.03.42.png

If you look online @GrahamW1 (a search engine I mean, not the Sky site) there are various suggested PC fixes for this error message to encourage Widevine to install correctly (these seem to be along the line of - your device believes it is installed and therefore doesn't try to re install it )

These appear to mainly involve editing files within Windows.

I'm reluctant to offer a specific link as I've no idea which of the suggestions will work - but if anyone is PC / MacOS literate there are plenty of suggestions out there - although I'm sure these should carry a warning of "don't do this if you aren't confident in what you are doing "

@Alexander1980

I have moved your post to the topic at hand so you can see you are not the only one with this issue.

It might be worth emailing the apps team at Sky about this - apps@sky.uk

Re: ''FAILED TO INSTALL WIDEVINE COMPONENTS'' ERROR: DOWNLOAD ERROR 404 (UNDE|FINED)

I'm also experiencing the same with a new PC Windows 11 Pro 25H2.

I have also enabled secure drm playback within edge via searching edge://flags and searching for Widevine and selecting 'enabled' and tried to re-install the desktop app. No luck thus far.

Has anyone managed to get this working?

Re: ''FAILED TO INSTALL WIDEVINE COMPONENTS'' ERROR: DOWNLOAD ERROR 404 (UNDE|FINED)

Just to note that this still seems to be an issue.

I downloaded the Sky Store Desktop App on my Windows 11 laptop at the weekend and the same error message that others have reported appeared when trying to open the app and download content.

I contacted Sky Support who have basically said that it's Google's problem (as they own Widevine) and not their's, although they have said that they are looking at a work around. I'm pretty sure that the error message is generated by Sky's app, so I would say that it is their problem, even if it is not the source of the problem.

If they get back to me with a work arpund then I will post it here.

Re: ''FAILED TO INSTALL WIDEVINE COMPONENTS'' ERROR: DOWNLOAD ERROR 404 (UNDE|FINED)

This was my formal response from sky and clearly not understanding the problem and not offering as yet any resolution. How can I acesss by PC if the following applies?

'Thank you for contacting Sky Store, and I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble with the Sky Store app.

The error being received "failed to install widevine components" is caused by Googles digital rights managments system, and is not caused by the Sky Store app.

Due to this we are limited in the information we can provide. We have passed this on to our back office team to see if we can find a workaround for this. However its still under investigation, and as it's not caused by the Sky Store app we may not be able to provide a workaround.

You can view your online content on devices such as:
PC/MAC
Android/iOS using the Sky Store app Here
NOW TV and Roku
LG Smart TV "WebOS3 or above"

You can also watch Sky Store content on your Chromecast, simply select the Chromecast icon on the Sky Store apps or skystore.com to view your content on the big screen.

My apologies we are curently unable to provide more information.
