powerlink conn to qmini
Hi all, noob question regarding connection dropping frequently b/w qbox and mini. At present, connection is via wireless, but due to the constant reboots after lost connections, I'm thinking of using the powerline option. my question is, will they work if I only shut off the wifi on the mini as the main qbox is connected to the router by wifi (on different floors of house)
thanks

Hi @swejb01
What are you intending to connect the Powerline units to and who is your Broadband supplier?

Re: powerlink conn to qmini
Hi,
I've read that powerlines are a no no with extensions, but have got no option as far as the qmini is concerned, but the qbox one can have its own socket - bb supplier is openreach 👍

Hi @swejb01
Ok so you are trying Powerline between main Q box and mini.
Just as well as you cannot connect minis by Ethernet to third party broadband if you main Q box is on WiFi.
The unit in an Extension lead may work provided it does not have surge protection. You can but try it.
When mini boxes are connected by Ethernet to the main Q box you can then switch off all WiFi on the mini if on 3rd party Broadband.
Carry out a Network reset 0n the mini with the Ethernet connected.
Network Reset found in mini Home - Settings - Setup - Network.
Highlight Status and then select Reset on the right hand side. . Do not carry out any WPS and just wait for the box to connect. It may take a couple of minutes. If it does not connect there is an issue with the Ethernet connection.
As soon as it connects go immediately into the box hidden menu and turn off WiFi.
To enter hidden menu press Home and navigate down to Settings but do not select Settings.
With Settings highlighted press 0 0 1 Select.
Go to Network to turn off both bands of WiFi. Confirm before exit.
Obviously the Main Q box WiFi needs to on in the main box when connected to router by WiFi.

That's generally not the case any more: speed may suffer but a Mini only needs a handful of Mbs anyway. Best not to use an extension block with additions such as surge protection, individual power switches, illumination or USB outlets though, and don't buy the cheapest available unit.
