Re: Volume on Sky Q
@Derrick241Unfortunately the Q box has a constant volume with no adjustments, I noticed it was far worse using a soundbar does it make any difference if you just use the TV to eliminate any problems between the soundbar and TV.

Re: Volume on Sky Q
It seems to be the same, even just using the TV volume and the Sky Q volume
The advertisments are really loud, have to turn the sound down when they come on channel 1, 2, 3 and channel 5, BBC1 qnd 2, ITV and 5 tv
I dont watch many of the Sky programs

Re: Volume on Sky Q
@Derrick241Somewhere deep in the Ofcom site, I can't find it at the moment, there is a rule about the volume of adverts compared to the volume of the programme. From memory if the advert is shown during a part of the programme where the volume is low then the advert can be a higher volume, or something like that.
Incidently the volume control on the Q remote only controls your TV volume and not the Q box as that has no volume adjustment.

Re: Volume on Sky Q
I unplugged the opitical cable from the Sky Q box and just used the volume button on the Sky Q remote, I watched a short 30 minute program, the adverts were definately louder than the program
Then I watched another proram, 30 minutes or so, turned the volume down on the Skq Box, just used the volume for the TV, same result
Plugged the opiticable back in, I had to turn the volume up for the program and down for the ads
Been onto Sky and asked them, they didnt have a clue

As @bob1234 says the SKY Q box itself has no volume control.
The SKY Q remote just mimicks the TVs remote's codes to alter the volume of your TV - it does not alter the SKY Q box volume which outputs a fixed level
Unplugging the optical cable just means that your TV was using the HDMI fixed level signal rather than the same (fixed level) signal over optical
The sound level is set by the broadcast itself by the individual broadcaster
As @bob1234 says there are regulations for programmes with adverts which shold mean that Programme level sound is similar to the adverts but there will be some tolerance
I think with some channels the advers are in 'normal' stereo whereas programme content is in 5.1 suuround DD which can make a difference

Re: Volume on Sky Q
I have managed to find an article written by a SKY QA operator where I raised inconsistent sound - please see his response:

Re: Volume on Sky Q
TV volume was set at Zero, Sky Q volume at the highest level, 100% Not for very long though
Going by Sky's reply on the phone, I think its something I am just going to have to live withy
I use the Sky Q for Gold radio on the sound bar, so I dont have to have the TV on
Sky Q just shows a huge Gold radio logo on the screen, not really something I want to see

As per our earlier replies - SKY Q box has no volume control - it simply alters your TV's (or Sound equipment's) volume

Re: Volume on Sky Q
hi @Derrick241
As an aside, whilst away I have had a ponder on your earlier comment regarding unplugging the optical cable
Please may I ask where is your Optical cable connected from & to ?
If it is connected from the SKY box to the TV then the chances are extremely likely that is not being used as most TVs only have an optical output & not an optical input (in fact I don't think I have come across a TV with an optical input - only AV equipment/soundbars etc)
Edited- Not required, as @Chodley points out I have not re-read your original posts fully to realise the SKY Q box is connected to a soundbar (apologies)

Re: Volume on Sky Q
I assume it was plugged into the sound bar he mentions.
So when the TV volume was down and the "Sky Q" volume was up, in reality I think the sound bar volume must have been up.
Not surprised the Sky agent was confused.

oops - Nige Engage brain & re-read older posts !
Sorry @Derrick241 for misunderstanding (although the comments about the SKY Q box having no volume control still stand)

Re: Volume on Sky Q
I've now gone back to my Freesat box, I can get a fairly good sound level on that, on all channels
