Upgrading from Sky+ hd to SkyQ

I phoned up yesterday to upgrade from Sky+ hd to SkyQ, no installation costs, same monthly costs, which was great. I received the email confirmation and noticed i was only getting the 1Tb box, i phoned up today to see if i could upgrade to the 2Tb box and they wanted £99.

The sky operator put me on hold a few times and then came back and said all sorts of rubbish.

So i cancelled the order and i'll stick with my 2 HD+ boxes, been with sky for over 25 years, it's a joke really, they just charge what they want, i'm sure if i'd spoke to a different operator, it might have been different.

The 1TB box is now the standard issue for new subscriptions.

I know you've now cancelled the order but these Sky+ boxes are no longer supported and won't last forever.

I will cc in one of the other Superusers who has compiled a very helpful guide for those potentially transitioning from Plus to Q which may provide some insight into something you hadn't considered...

That is actually the norm, I wanted to upgrade from my non-UHD 1TB box a couple of years back and they tried quoting me £99. I just argued (politely) and they waived the cost. A quick self-install and the old box sent back and bobs your uncle.

hi @spartansFC2

Just in case you do follow through with Q then as @Daniel0210  says

You may, also, wish to read some notes I have made for people considering switching from SKY +/HD to SKY Q

Re: Upgrading from Sky+ hd to SkyQ

I did try to haggle with them @Me134 but they weren't budging. They suggested i still go ahead with the install and ask the engineer if they had any spare 2tb boxes.

That guide is great @nigea99, wish i'd seen it sooner before my intial phonecall yesterday, we live and learn i guess.

Thanks to all for the replies.

I presume you're in a minimum term contract at the moment? If so wait until it's time and use it as a bargaining lever.
