Ultra HD and multi room
I'm in the process of moving, and have brought sky over from my old house.
My new property is in a 20 year old block with a communial dish. Due to the only working sky socket being in the bedroom, I now have multi room to stream to the lounge.
At present, both TV's are not Ultra compatible, but the one being brought from my former home is, and as such, I have Ultra HD bolted onto my subscription.
My question: - at present, none of the Ultra HD channels show which is (i am guessing) becase neither box can find a compatible TV. When I bring my Ultra HD TV over, it will be connected to the Multi-room device. Will this recognose the TV type and thus start showing Ultra HD ?
(The main box in the bedroom will remain with a normal HD TV)

Hi @MutleyF
Unfortunately with Sky Q only the main Q box is UHD capable/
Sky Q mini boxes are not.

Re: Ultra HD and multi room
Additionally the mini's cannot play back UHD material (in HD). You need to download or record HD material only for them.

Thanks all
I've spoken to Sky who also confirm this is a no go.
Cancelled the Ultra add on as no point in having it

Re: Ultra HD and multi room
Q dates from 2016 when it was much more unusual to have multiple UHD sets.
The system for that (assuming adequate internet bandwidth) is Sky Stream.
BT Halo 3+ Ultrafast FTTP (500Mbs), BT Smart Hub 2

Re: Ultra HD and multi room
Yup - it was one of the options discussed with Sky, but I dont like not having the ability to record.
Having to rely on catch up or +1 channels has a lot of restrictions.
IIt's a shame, but there you are 🙂

There are no +1 channels on Stream.

Re: Ultra HD and multi room
In my opinion, that seals the deal on me not having it

So at the moment you have two non UHD TVs the main Sky Q box is UHD connected to a non UHD TV.
The tv in the lounge is connected to a non UHD Sky Q mini but at some point could have a UHD tv connected to it
Even if you connected the UHD tv to the main Sky Q box you'd have to set the box to 1080p as you don't have the UHD subscription
So connecting your UHD tv to the Sky Q mini is no different than connecting it to the main Sky Q box as you won't be able to access UHD content if you've cancelled UHD
Each too their own but if I'd got a UHD tv I'm obviously going to connect it to the Sky Q box that supports UHD rather than the non UHD Sky Q mini

Re: Ultra HD and multi room
I do agree, but the only working sky input is in the bedroom, and I don't want to spend the entire evening watching ultra he in there.
my property is block managed, so I will ask them to look into the dodgy socket in the lounge. If that works, then the ,main q box will go there, and so I will have ultra again
