Sony Bravia TV, EE Broadband and SkyQ - Hardwired....

Backstory:  A couple of months ago I changed from BT to EE Broadband, and my TV occasionally stopped working, presenting me with 6x red flashes of the LED.  This progressivley got worse until that's all it would do, but I think it was an HDMI issue, as changing from one HDMI device to another, usually triggered the problem.  As the TV was over 7 years old, I replaced it for a new one.  Both the old and new TVs are hardwired directly to the hub.

Present day:  I wonder if the SkyQ box has something to do with the issue because, although the TV works, I occasionally get problems with the SkyQ box presenting screen issues, i.e. compressed into a bar across the screen or completely distorted, which requires a reboot.  The reboot also causes the EE router to lose connection with the internet, with the LED flashing amber.  This has taken hours to clear, once up to 10 hours.  The broadband engineers couldn't find fault with the router, the indoor wiring or the supply from the exchange.

Two days ago, the SkyQ box did it again, requiring a hard reset.  At the same time I unplugged it, the broadband disconnected.  Is this just coincidence?

The EE engineer is coming out again next week, but during my conversation with the EE technical support engineer suggested there have been issues caused by the SkyQ box, albeit rarely.

Has anyone else had this or simial issues, please?

Hi @Nightowl999   A Sony TV with 6 red flashes means the power board is on the way out. Everything else is just coincidence.

Hi @Nightowl999

Certainly the Q box would have had nothing to do with the original Sony TV error.

On Sony the flashing LED is used to indicate internal TV errors.

If your TV is hard wired by Ethernet is your Q box?

You say you did a hard reset.
If this was just a power reboot then try a Reset Settings in the Q box hidden menu.
To enter hidden menu press Home and navigate down to Settings but do not select Settings.
With Settings highlighted press 0 0 1 Select.
Only Carry out the first Reset (Reset Settings) as the other two will wipe all recordings.
After the Reset you will have to re pair your Bluetooth remote If you use one.
If you cannot switch the Q box on with the remote after the Reset press the Standby button (Amber led) on the front of the box.
To re pair the remote press 1 & 3 together on the remote and follow onscreen instructions to re pair.

Make sure that you are pointing the remote at the Q box when you press 1 & 3 together.

Resetting the settings will also reset:

Audio visual settings, such as picture resolution and HDMI control
Settings changed within the hidden engineer menu, include LNB type. If on a communal dish you need to reset the LNB to SCR in the hidden menu. After changing the LNB type you need to reboot the Q box.

Re: Sony Bravia TV, EE Broadband and SkyQ - Hardwired....

Yep, the sony TV is definitely beyond economical repair!

One event might be a coincidence, but this 'tripping' of the HDMI-connected device to cause the red flashing LEDs has happened several times, leaving the router disconnecting.

Maybe it was the TV causing the problems, not the SkyQ box, because it is hard-wired to the router (as are all the other devices) and connected to the other devices via HDMI.  It's the common factor.

thank you.

Re: Sony Bravia TV, EE Broadband and SkyQ - Hardwired....

You're correct, it was just a power reboot, but as (almost) everything appears to be working at the moment, I'll leave the Reset Settings for now, unless...

...The issue that does occasionally happen is when the SkyQ output to the TV is 'squashed' into the middle, horizontal third of the screen.  Only a power reboot resolves this because using the remote to turn the box off and back on doesn't resolve it.

I don't know what causes this.  It happens sometimes when I turn on the Sky box, not in the middle of viewing anything, so do you think a Reset Settings might prevent this happening in the future?

Thanks

Hi @Nightowl999

No guarantees but if there is a Q issue a Reset Settings may eliminate it.

Re: Sony Bravia TV, EE Broadband and SkyQ - Hardwired....

Any news on your problem mate? I have similar problem but getting 4 red flashes on Sony Bravia, pause and repeat. I first thought it had something to do with pausing and rewinding live TV which I'm prone to do at times but last Thursday when the weather was really hot it tripped around 5/6 times in the afternoon but was fine later on when the cooled off.

I stuck the firestick in and it tripped on that as well, just wondering if wiring the router direct to TV and Q instead of WiFi might work.
