I've just bought The Sony X55-X90L and am generally happy with it. The only gripe is that some adverts show black bars at either side or top and bottom. This never happened with my 9 year old Sony Tv. I've been through every settings and nothing worked. Can anyone shed any light on this? I have a sky q box with UHD.

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreHi @mickyg60 Welcome to the modern world. The black bars are transmitted and it is the TV's job to adjust the aspect ratio. This works with lower resolutions but will be fixed on UHD. Look for Aspect Ratio in your TV's manual.
Look in Settings -> Display & Sound -> Screen. If the settings are greyed out then you would need to lower the Sky Q resolution to 1080 if it is important to you. I stopped playing with the aspect ratio 20 years ago.

I have tried changing settings when lowering res to 1080p and 1080i, all no good. I had a lend of a samsung qled 90c and that was fine when adverts were on (picture wasn't as good as Sony which is why I stuck to Sony)....maybe should have bought samsung instead of sticking to what I was used to! I guess i'll get used to it....
