Turning off recording in near future

I have recently heard from a family member who owns an IT company that Sky will be turning off the ability to record/download onto the Sky-Q box in the not too distant future; and that it will simply become a satellite streaming service (similar to Sky Stream/Glass in the way it works) apart from the fact that it will still require a satellite dish.

Can Sky either confirm that this is something that there are plans for in the not too distant future or totally deny this?

Hi @Wayne+on+Sky

Sky are unlikely to confirm or deny rumours.

As they already have Streamings services it makes no sense to change Q to streaming only.

The days of satellite TV in the UK are numbered but this is many years away.  Many articles around, e.g. https://rxtvinfo.com/2022/sky-commits-to-uk-ireland-satellite-broadcasting-until-2028/

Sky will only confirm their future plans once they are public.  And it won't be here in a customer forum.

Difficult to see what Sky would gain from that, except to massively annoy millions of Q users.

As noted above, it's satellite broadcasting which is going to end if the current orbiting platforms aren't replaced.

Seems unlikely with the push to Internet services, including Freely.  Those without a good internet service might be frustrated mind.

Presumably somewhere (rather low down) on the agenda for an incoming government: someone is going to have to make decisions about PSB availability in locations where there's only satellite coverage.
