It probably is 🙄

Although I have't had anyone else's recordings of Coronation Street turn up unexpectantly ...

Re: This programme is no longer available

Just here so I can follow this thread. Frustratingly, I had a new box delivered last week to solve this problem which it obviously hasn't solved. Praying that it's fixed with the new software update.

Re: This programme is no longer available

This hit me this morning, for the first time. Switching off the box and then at the mains socket (but not unplugging) solved it.  I hope it's not a portent for the future.

I doubt it. I feel stupid enough talking to the Sky remote.

I heartily agree on that one, for multiple reasons which won't change.

You can however - if you wanted to - buy smart plugs which work from a non-Google and non-Amazon app with no voice control required, which is what I use for my subwoofer, and a minimum requirement for my case. (The smart plugs I have also happen to work with the Google/Amazon ecoysystems)

Re: This programme is no longer available

Intriguing, But isn't working the plug from an app more or less equivalent to simply switching off the power (and unplugging) manually?  I suppose it depends on the accessibility of the plug.

My subwoofer remains powered all the time because I can't reach the place where it's plugged in. What I need for that is a plug smart enough to switch itself off when there's no incoming signal and back on again when there is.

Yes, it's the same as walking up to the sub, leaning over it, and switching it off. But it's more convenient especially if you can't easily reach the power switch on the back of the sub and/or on the wall. Separately, the app also controls other things so in my case I've got my (so-called) "Smart" led lightbulbs in a group, where I can for example "enable movie" to dim the bulbs to a certain level and turn the sub on. Or "leaving home" (turn all bulbs and sub off).

Another method: some subs and amps have trigger controls where you can connect their trigger out jacks with a cable so the amp tells the sub to turn on when it turns on. The 12V trigger control method is industry standard going back many years and predates anything "smart" and still works. My sub doesn't have a trigger port though.

Re: This programme is no longer available

Thanks for that. My Denon amp has the trigger out capability but the sub doesn't. It's been powered on continuously (power cuts and similar excepted) for a good few years now with no evident harmful effects save possibly to my electricity bill.

Re: This programme is no longer available

The first movie I watched on Sky was the blockbuster of the time - Robocop! That tells you how many years I've been with Sky. Throughout the time my Sky Box(es) have been on 24/7 and just worked. That is until now.

It's fine that we have been able to stumble upon workarounds, but it shouldn't be up to us as users to do this. Sky really do need to get their act together, talk to us (VIPs??) on here and when contacting support, and at least acknowledge that this is a problem that is being being sorted, instead of giving mixed messages from support, and sending out replacement boxes that serve no purpose other than placating irritated customers.

Sky support has been excellent throughout the years - the few times I have had problems techincally, they have been sorted out, and any time I needed to talk about the packages on offer they've always been more than helpful. It seems really odd that this pretty serious problem ihas not been addressed.

Come on Sky - at least give us the lowdown on what is happening, eh?

It's madness how a super large company can treat loyal customers as if we no longer matter this has gone on long enough

come on sky play the game.
