Smart Sky

Just a thought....

I don't know about others using this forum, but my home is becoming more and more filled with smart devices. TVs, bulbs, sockets, light switches, etc. And this means we've become more comfortable with using voice commands anywhere in our home to control things. So, my thought is why can't Sky add the smart capability to their Sky Q box?

I can ask Google Assistant to turn on my smart TV and start any number of streaming services' offerings ; e.g. "OK Google play Black Mirror on Netflix". So, wouldn't it be nice if I could ask Google Assistant to play any of the many offerings on Sky? (OK, I know I can speak to the Sky remote. But I'm talking about speaking to any of the Google devices I have in my home to provide the same function. {or Alexa or Siri})

Mostly because Q is hardware based on a specification from 2014 (pre-dating Google Assistant, for example) and now very unlikely to be revised.

I'd hazard a guess that there'd also be some reluctance from Comcast to tie their products into an ecosystem controlled by Google/Apple/Amazon etc...

Or Sky Glass? I'd be quite happy to lose the access to recording programmes if Sky Glass was integrated into my smart home.

So raise the suggestion in the Sky Glass forum and see if the idea is picked up

I am just another Sky customer!

Glass (and Stream) is very much a Comcast product: given the notorious independent-mindedness of the Roberts family I really can't see that happening.
