Sky update taking forever!

For reasons that are too long/boring/irrelevant to go into, we have been paying for Sky for the past 13 months but have not been able to use it and the box was packed away. Today I reconnected our sky box and it says we have no satellite signal (I have managed to connect the box to WiFi).

The service checker online, however, says we do have signal but need a software update (box says it's using software version Q230. 000.14.00L (5nf3ptk)).

The software update has now been going on for about an hour and all it says is "software update in progress" - is this normal? There's no indication of how far through the process we are so I don't know whether to wait it out or reboot...

Hi @Elly10   There is a chance that the software is so far out of date that it cannot be updated. There has been at least 5 updates since Q230.

Hi @Elly10   The software only updates when you place the box into Standby. Normally about 30 minutes after requesting it.

Re: Sky update taking forever!

Thanks for your response! I am trying to "force" an update through settings - it's telling me not to turn off the box, so I didn't think I could put it on standby?

Hi @Elly10  Not to turn off the box means unplugging it from the mains.

Ah sadly that hasn't worked either. I shall just wait patiently for an engineer visit ☺️

@Elly10 If your box has not received a satellite signal for a while it will not work(the box needs the periodic keep alive satellite signal) but if you leave it connected to the satellite it should then receive this signal and start working again once your box receives this signal you should then hopefully be able to update it but untill you receive the signal nothing will work
