Re: Sky q and mini box not working
If the box is frozen it's impossible to put it into standby before unplugging or turning off at the mains. Suggest just unplugging and leaving it for 30 seconds before rebooting as Sky are recommending.

Re: Last night
Assuming the problem is now fixed for the majority of us, how exactly are you suggesting we be compensated? £1.00 per recording lost? Next bill half price as a good-will gesture?
First-world problems - I wouldn't hold your breath.

Re: Sky q switches off - 15/05
interesting it is a system wide event
my Sky Q went around 21.40 and the red recording light stayed on. Appeared it was still actually recording
could not turn on, no green light
removing the power brought it back for about 30 seconds then it went again
So triggered a full software update and that seemed to have cleared it. Working fine next morning. Might just be the software update break is what cleared it not the software update.
Just glad we are not on Sky Broadband so did not loose wifi or intenet access
These issues do happen

Re: Sky q switches off - 15/05
I've just manually did a Software Update
Box has now completed the update, I've placed it into Standby mode and it's currently finishing up
From what I can see, it's sorted the issue
Now on version: Q300.000.06.00L (5yzv4ns)

Re: Sky q switches off - 15/05
Just a post to say that I also did the software update but it crashed again after the update. It's clearly an issue Sky's end, people doing all the usual "fixes" clearly won't work considering the issue persisted last night whatever you did.

Re: Sky q switches off - 15/05
My sky q box isn't old and has been OK however sence last night keeps switching off every 10 min but green light stays on all started from 9. 00pm
Its a sky q box issue not the TV checked everything
This issue is being reported everywhere newspapers online etc all stating the same issue. Yet no mention of it on their website or service status page
Frustrating 😠

You need to be aware that the SKY Q Boxes are slighthly misleading in that it always gives you an option to refresh the software even if the software is up to to date.
It is unlikely that the refresh of software itself helped, however the process it goes through to restart the SKY Q box is what did

Re: Sky Q box OS failure observations
@TonyG5 wrote:Hello all, as a technology enthusiast, I have been analyzing the outages reported on the community forum and getting added views from my AI companion. Please note these are just my own informal views/opinions, offered as a fellow customer, not a Sky employee. Nothing in my post here is official or definitely correct.
I want to emphasize that nothing here is intended to be a critical or exaggerated view of Sky’s services. I’m simply sharing thoughts in the hope that our collective insights may help us all better understand the issues reported on the community forum.
The reported issues, from reading the community posts, are around the following:
- The official Sky website fails to login Sky accounts, displaying only a blank white screen.
- Sky apps on client devices are no longer able to authorize customer accounts.
- Customers reported Sky server authentication errors on their devices.
- Customers report it is not possible to play recordings. The inability to play recordings may be connected to a failure in the authentication of customers’ viewing cards or account subscriptions.
- A small number of customers on a newer version of the Sky Q box software (most likely being rolled out on a schedule) have experienced the same issues. This version is not yet available for manual update in all areas.
- In summary, the main impacts of the outage appear to be Sky Q boxes, Sky apps, Sky website, and the central server authentication process.
Let’s break down the potential issues:
- Multi Platforms Impact:
Form what I have read on the community forum, the outage isn’t limited to the Sky Q boxes but extends to the Sky apps, the Sky website (which hangs on Microsoft Edge), and failure in authenticating customer accounts. This impact suggests an issue on Sky’s central servers or network infrastructure specifically, where data and permissions are managed.- Repercussions on Recordings and Content Access:
The inability to play recordings is significant. Sky Q boxes store recordings in a secure, subscription-bound format. If the authentication process fails, access to this content is blocked, which points to potential problems in the central service that validates account status.- Authentication Server Failure:
The core system that confirms your account status and permissions is likely malfunctioning or overloaded.- Cascading Service Disruption:
With at least some functions of authentication down, the website, apps, and Sky Q boxes all lose their ability to communicate properly with Sky’s backend.Observations:
From all the gathered details from our community website, it seems far more plausible that there is a centralized server or network disruption perhaps due to an unscheduled outage, a configuration anomaly, or an unexpected load issue, that is affecting the digital ecosystem.Next Steps:
- Look out for feedback from Sky.
- Try the affected services again later. It’s likely the issue is transient as Sky will be addressing the underlying problem.
I don't mean to be rude but using AI to make / extend quickly and easily to generate a huge long post that basically says "there's probably some system problem that they're working on so try again later" has the exact opposite effect in terms of time taken for the reader. It makes it laborious for us, could you please desist copy & pasting GenAI stuff?

Have you tried the recommended fix that Sky have mentioned for this problem;
Switch off your Sky Q box at the power socket for 30 seconds and back on again
Sky Stream with two pucks (former Sky Q and Sky+ customer).
Sky Ultrafast + using Sky SR203 hub. Sky Mobile unlimited data. Sky Protect smart tech kit tester.
