I use an Apple TV 4K box.
I have discounted subscriptions to Netflix Premium, Disney+, Prime Video, ITVX Premium, Channel 4+, YouTube Premium and a couple of US services (via means which Sky don't let us talk about on these forums.)
I recently had a 6 month NOW TV subscription for £2.99pm plus Boost at £2pm which gave me all the Sky content.
It's more complicated to set up but once done it's much more versatile, quicker and better quality than any of the Sky services I had previously (Sky+HD, Sky Q, Sky Stream).
We rarely watch live TV but can easily view live channel streams via iPlayer, ITVX, Channel 4 & My5 apps plus we have Freeview Play on the TV itself (which can be recorded to a USB flash drive).

Re: Sky q box
Could be the fan working overtime. Is the box in a well ventilated position?

Sky Q has an internal fan which runs continuously at varying speeds, even when the box is in standby.
As these boxes were mass produced and of varying types, build quality varies and some are noisier than others. Some customers claim their Q boxes are completely silent, others find the level of noise from the fan (and hard drive) can vary tremendously.
I had to get one of my old Q boxes replaced because the hard drive ticked continuously. The replacement was much quieter but I was always aware of the quiet whirr of the fan. We grew used to it, but was glad when we switched to a streaming-only service and now use completely silent streaming devices with no mechanical spinning parts. You then really notice just how much noise (as quiet as it is) a hard drive based recorder actually makes.
