Sky Q picture quality seems inferior to Sky HD

'top of the range' isn't really a thing when that 'range' is mostly characterised by bogus or unproven claims, irrelevant construction details and pseudoscience: throwing in some graphene, for example, because graphene is cool now.

Personally I suspect the ludicrously priced items are there to make the merely outrageously costly ones seem almost reasonable by comparison.

I'm not sure how many more ways there are to say this but digital TV signals up to 8k resolution can be done perfectly, as in the numbers that go in one end of the cable are

the exact same numbers that come out the other end, at a rate of 40billion 1s and 0s every second, for £12 for 1.5m. That £30k TV might be a bit too big for such a short cable though.

And that data rate is only good enough for 4:2:0 chroma sampling, which most consumer stuff uses but you need a cable and devices that can handle 60Gb for 4:2:2 and 80Gb for 4:4:4. Those are probably quite expensive still.

All that I wanted to know after the discussion moved on to cables was.Is it worth buying a good quality well constructed with tight tolerances cable, would it make an improvement on picture quality. So I gave an example of a brand. If you are gullible then you can pay really silly money as i am well aware

Firstly I must say that I have appreciated Chodleys input. Very informative. Also I tend to agree with Paul 401 comments.I'm not very good with forum's as by the time I've responded to a comment someone else has posted something and it looks like I'm replying to them, not sure how to get that right  Chodley i have just checked and I have the Ibra cable that you sent a link for. Thanks for that. I bought this when I first got Sky Q as I thought the picture quality was worse than with Sky HD. It did not seem to make any difference to the original cable that I had.  So I won't be buying an expensive cable and waisting money as it works  and looks stunning in UHD on Sky. The best thing so far improvement wise has been changing my output to 1080i from 2160p 10 bit. Unfortunately I will have to change it back every time I want to watch UHD. It's a pity Sky can't auto detect the signal required and change it automatically,but that's a bit much to ask.

I use Ibra cables between my many devices (blu-ray,  SKY, other Satellite,    Freeview HDD, & AVamp to TV) and as pointed out you won't gain  by paying more for others.

It is a shame that some people find their TV upscales the HD better than the SKY box & thus feel it worth changing the resolution depending on whether they are watching HD or UHD. 

I think there are a few reasons why the SKY box doesn't auto switch - I think one is that some customers would possibly have more problems by this happening

Personally I don't notice any difference between letting my box upscale vs my Panasonic TV do so, so I am able to leave mine at 2160.

Maybe one thing for me is that I have always had my TV settings on the slightly 'softer' side rather than  high contast since my early days with Lasediscs and setting my older TVs up using a calibration disc.

BTW We know many members here  take a time to find out how to use it - it is not always obvious  even if you know other forums so don't worry about it. It took me a while to find out out how to quote posts etc. - hopefully @Chodley 's post will help you in future (I think the quote icon now appears in the most people's editor - when I started it was in the 2nd line which I couldn't spot how to get)

Also to quote someone just start typing using the @ sign and the most recent posters Ids should pop up as you as you type which you can select

For clarity, that should read as "to tag someone" rather than quote them (you still need the quotes from the toolbar for that), although I always find that bit rather hit and miss as to most recent or not.

Thanks for that trying it now. I have my Tv set to filmmaker mode which turns off all the processing. This gives low contrast, I also have the Oled brightness turned down slightly and the colour down 1 point

Interesting. On my Panasonic OLED, filmmaker mode turns most things off but turns on a low level frame interpolation. It doesn't seem too "soap opera" but I was surprised it can't be disabled.

On my LG C3 filmmaker mode still lets you adjust some settings like Truemotion. There are 4 settings on this menu. Cinematic motion, natural and so on. I keep mine to off.

Hi 👋  I bought an lg 65 c3 had the same issues and drove me mad 😠 

I even changed to sky stream as suggested by sky...didn't help but after playing around with tv settings I found turning all settings off on any mode... film maker...standard and turning truemotion to user selection and then just turn de judder to 4 and de blur to 0 and smooth gradation to low 😎 worked for me I hope this helps x

Thanks. I will try it. I am a bit confused as there has to be a mode set because you can only select one of them . Be it standard or filmaker for example, and my tv doesn't have the de-blur and de-judder settings as you describe them. They are probably the same but under a different title
