Son has asked to pay for SKY multi room.
I am concerned that I'd be stuck with the 18months additional fees and it will not work.
where his room is located he has intermittent WIFI so he connects his Xbox with a "power socket adaptor" not sure if that's its technically name.
would a mini box work for him I don't want wires running from the dish to his room

A Q Mini box will function from a Powerline network adapter: if there's already a device using it then he'd need an ethernet switch as well.
It would be best to switch off the Mini box WiFi.
1) Press the ‘Home’ button on your remote control.
2) Scroll down to highlight ‘Settings’ but DO NOTpress select.
3) Press ‘001’.
4) Press ‘Select’
Then: Network -
- 2.4Ghz wireless - Off
- 5Ghz wireless - Off

Re: Sky Q mini box connection
I also forgot to add my WIFI is through VM as SKY broadband could only be provided through a BT line and constantly disconnected. BT replaced everything but it continued so after 3 years we moved the Broadband only

Mini boxes don't have satellite tuners anyway, so can't use a dish feed cable.

Re: Sky Q mini box connection
Ok really sorry but I'm a complete non tech brain and trying to find my way hear: I have:
a sky q and a new q-mini
we have non-sky broadband which goes by cable into the first point of a google mesh (first gen) and then by cable into to main sky q box.
the google then forms a mesh with three other points around the house. Both tvs in the house connect fine to the Google WiFi and stream Netflix, Amazon etc fine. BUT Q MINI KEEPS FAILING - either finding then losing or just failing to find the main q WiFi all together.
i can't add a cable from the mini to a nearby Google point as they are first gen (speaker/boost but not a port for cable)
how do I ensure the mini connects to the original sky q ?
VERY PLAIN LANGUAGE EXPLANATIONS PLEASE 🙏

@RintelnHameln as Sky is not your broadband provider your mini boxes will not connect to your google mesh they will need to be connected to your main Q box.
When trying to connect them you should get a message on screen about pressing the WPS button on the nearest piece of Q equipment you will need to go to the main box and press the WPS button on that.
I may be a Sky Superuser but I am still just a Sky customer
Sky Q 2 TB (Silver)Box, 2 Mini boxes since June 2016, all connected by wifi
Sky Broadband Hub/SR203, Sky Ultrafast broadband
Ultimate on Demand, Q Experience/UHD, Sky Sports, Sky Cinema
LG 49SJ 810 V UHD TV, Google Pixel 7 Pro mobile
