We have lots problems with sky broadband so looking at exploring other providers.
wanting to know if anyone has had any problems keeping sky tv but moving to another provider. Currently looking at virgin if that makes a difference

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more@Nik_74 You shouldn't have a problem just switching broadband, but note as virgin is not part of the openreach network you will need to cancel your broadband service with sky directly as the switch service won't work if you go with virgin

Not true nowadays as I changed from Sky FTTP to Virgin Media broadband earlier this year. I was wanting to keep the landline number (I'm not sure if that would make a difference or not TBH) and the automatic switch went without a hitch with Sky sending an email the same day confirming the cancellation process when I signed up online for Virgin BB.
For the OP, any broadband supplier will work fine with a Sky Q box although it does affect mulit-room if you use the mesh system for a WiFi boost.

I also have Virgin Broadband and have no issues with connectivity over wifi.
