Re: Sky Q box regulary loses internet connection.

He was adamant that he would not send me one unless we moved to Sky Broadband and told me to ring BT and ask them for one!

There are two types of booster. One specific to Sky Q and broadband provider is irrelevant.

Maybe they thought you meant the general sky broadband booster.

@massey.lAre you saying you have tried the Range extender connection and that has not worked either??

Re: Sky Q box regulary loses internet connection.

I have rebooted my broadband router, rebooted Sky boxes & reconnected them in every way possible. This happened to me a few years ago. Someone from Sky finally came and connected me to Sky broadband even though I had BT. Everything miraculously worked. A few days ago the same problem has reappeared. It is enormously frustrating. I can't watch any of the apps for more than 5 minutes before the connection is lost. Really, in this day and age? All my devices are working off the BT Hub. Only Sky Q isn't. Why???

Re: Sky Q box regulary loses internet connection.

@AltafI'm assuming you have not read through the posts.....although there are numerous pages.

In short...the issue is that SkyQ has a software gremlin causing these loss of connection problems. The problem is with the direct connection from SkyQ to your Hub/ router.

There are a couple of fixes on here. A simple version is to circumvent the connection by using a range extender. So you connect the Hub to the extender. Plug the extender in downstairs then connect your SkyQ to that and not the Hub.

If you get the time go through the posts and you will see my fix from about page 3 i think. Also Chodley has a more technical fix. If you go through all will be explained for you.

Re: Sky Q box regulary loses internet connection.

Disgusted with Sky and so frustrated! Sky Q mini box dropping out constantly (multi room) yet main sky Q works totally fine.  Varies between no connection to internet or the sky q box. I've had engineer out before. Husband has hard wired boxes so shouldn't have an issue. Sky sent a new box, no difference. I shall be back on the phone again ........ going to cancel this. I can't be doing with it!

Re: Sky Q box regulary loses internet connection.

Yup, Direct wired, wireless or with a range extender. Got the new box and was ok for the first month and then it started, now it will only hold connection for 5 min. It's rediculous, makes sky not fit for purpose

Re: Sky Q box regulary loses internet connection.

@massey.lNot trying to tell you how to suck eggs etc...did you set the range exrender up correctly first. Mine had to be connected to a PC with an ethernet cable. Then use a link provided and it logs into the settings page where it downloads all the details / settings of the Router. Then unplug it and use it downstaies etc.?

Re: Sky Q box regulary loses internet connection.

Yes, it doesn't work without ghosting the configs.

Re: Sky Q box regulary loses internet connection.

Hi @Gaz

Do you mind summarising the fix to us plebs on exactly what needs to be done. I use BT Halo 3+. I have a Sky Range Extender. My Sky Q box is connected to 2 mini boxes. What do I need to buy and have ready to achieve this 'final' solution?
Many thanks

Re: Sky Q box regulary loses internet connection.

Hello@Altaf ,

You are certainly not plebs.

The problem we all have is down to the SkyQ boxes having a software gremlin that causes issues when trying to connect SkyQ directly to routers / hubs. Having also spoken to the SkyQ Gurus (the team the engineers ask for advice) it also has something to do with the new WiFi6 which is the latest version of WiFi.

So i decided to dig out a very old TP_Link range extender I had tucked away and test that to circumvent the direct connection. On this range extender is an ethernet port. This is used to connect it to a PC do set it up with your router. This sounds like it wouldnt work but it does.....

You plug the extender into a power socket so it turns on. Then connect an ethernet cable from the Extender to your pc. Then launch a browser and type in a web address provided by TP-Link. Then use the password also provided and it logs you into all the tech settings and configuration. Go through the SET UP  for 2.4GHz and 5GHz host network.

***make sure you "Custom change" the name of the extender as it takes the same name as the router. Then you know which one to pick when network options show on the SkyQ...eg..."my extender"***

"

When you have finished the setup plug it in by the SkyQ. Go into Sky settings and networks and when the available networks appear your extender will be there. Connect to this.

Now your SkyQ is connected via WiFi to the range extender and not the router. MIne has been connected for months now with no problems and other have had the same success. The good point is that to stream Netflix etc you only need 25 - 30 Mbps which the extender easily provides.

All the instructions for theTP-Link are easily available online as PDFs. I'm sure other makes of extenders are also available with similar instructions.

If you need any deeper tech advice give @Chodley  a shout on here. He is a proper Tech and very knowledgeable on just about everything you will need to know.

Hope this helps
